The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is why we celebrate Easter Day. According to New Testament of the bible, Jesus was crucified on the eve of Passover and shortly after, rose from the dead on the first Sunday following Passover. Early Christians then celebrated this occasion on that particular Sunday. Newly baptized ones even wore white garments, white being the liturgical color of Easter and signifying light, purity, and joy.
