Melissa walked quickly towards the door, pushing people out of her way. She turned her head once more to see if Howie had by chance caught a glimpse of her and was following her, but instead she only saw verification that she was wrong. He stood there, once again kissing his new lover. She ran out of the club, holding back her tears, she refused to let him see her cry. “ Dammit Jennifer! Can’t you see I’m busy! Jesus, you can’t just grab me like that!” Howie said angrily in Jennifer’s face. “ No, you listen Howard, I’m not going to hang around and wait for you the entire night while you go off by yourself around the club.” Jennifer replied quickly. Howie hated it when she used his full name. Only his mom called him that, and it certainly was said more lovingly than what just came out of her mouth. “ Well then maybe you should go home.” Howie said, his face freezing, showing Jennifer how serious he was. She released her grip on Howie and stomped away, sliding out the back door to avoid any unwanted fans. The Backstreet Boys fans knew barely knew about her, but there were always the psychotic ones who enjoyed stalking everyone. As soon as Howie saw that she left the club, he quickly headed out the front door. The cool night breeze blew against his heated face as he searched for Melissa. She was gone. Had she seen him with Jennifer? Not that it was any of her business; she left him, not the other way around, or at least he thought. All he knew was that seeing her again had brought back a flood of emotions that he hadn’t expected to feel so strongly. He could still smell her sweet perfume sometimes in his bedroom, could feel her soft touch so vividly. He knew that what he shared with Melissa was far from what he now had with Jennifer. Melissa was more loving, caring, understanding. He was still hurt that she had not left any of her info and from what he assumed didn’t care to, but something was telling him that she was special. Melissa kicked sand around her feet violently as she stomped her way down to the beautiful white sand beach that lined the shore outside of the club. She needed an escape, and the beach offered a quick one. When she reached the water, she stopped and finally broke down in tears, sobbing uncontrollably. She held her face, trying to control her emotions, but it was futile. She couldn’t believe how infatuated he seemed with his new girlfriend. Melissa knew that she only had spent one night with him, but it meant so much to her! Could he have easily forgotten that same night? And why had he never contacted her? She was overcome with anger, confusion, hate and love. She hated him for not contacting her, but she still cared for him deeply. Her knees became weak and she fell lightly onto the soft sand. She had removed her sandals when reaching the sand and now felt like throwing them somewhere or at someone. “Ugh, I can’t believe he makes me this mad! And on my birthday, of all nights! What a fucking bastard! I even left him my mother’s address and phone number in case I was there when he called! But no…NOTHING!” Melissa screamed, not seeing anyone else on the beach. Her tears, still flowing, were overcome by her anger. She stood up and stared back into the beautiful, calm ocean. Her thoughts retreated back to that night, the same view, but she was missing an important part of that, Howie’s strong arms wrapped around her. She began to weep again when she suddenly heard a voice. |
