RLS can be and is quite a problem but I have found great relief with the combination of Neurotin and Darvocet, this helps keep it under control.  Many stroke survivors with cental pain also have RLS.
The other thing, alot of other survivors have also is acid reflux disease or G.E.R.D.  This ranges in severity and can be reduced or stopped by Pepcid or Zantac strengh formulas.  For more severe cases meds such as, Prevacid, Nexuim, Prilosec and AciPhex work great to control this. A certain Collidal mineral in Aloe Vera works as does Oil of oregano and Cayenne.  I just wanted to mention these affects so that others might be aware of them.
Overall I recovered quite alot considering how bad I'd stroked.  Everyone does recover so differently, most important though is to never listen to the negative comments and statements someone tries to put into your head.  No one can tell you how much you'll get back or how long and how much of a fight it's going to take you.  Always look towards recovery and expect more to happen as time progresses.  I truly believe with work our stroke bodies will progress, if not through our hard work, there is also God's healing power along with human will to restore us physically, in our's and his own way.
There are no limits on time or recovery.  You must fight as long as you can to improve, work, hope, faith and prayer does make all the difference.
I do not miss my kids and teaching as much now.  As time goes by I have my Machintosh and the internet to keep me very, if not too busy sometimes.  I enjoy communicating, sharing information and support with other stroke survivors.  Because of my lability I did not join our "local" support group...Someday I still might.  Communicating by typingis so much easier than in person.  Emotions still choke me up and set off lability.
The  internet has opened so many new doors.  Many good friends are out there in this big wide world, many are in the same boat as I am.  That is very helpful.
I run an email support list of around 100 strokees , for several years now and belong to several more groups as well.  We share our ups and downs and any beneficial information or links that cross our paths.  If this touches you, please join us for one of our specialized support group.
My quote to remember is from one of my favorite's from Richard Bach Jonathon Livingston Seagull "I can fly" hence, skybird101.
