| Michael woke up hours later feeling relaxed and refreshed. He hadn’t felt like that in a long time. With Kita snuggled up in his arms her beautiful blonde hair splayed out across his chest and she sleeping soundly and peacefully it was no wonder that he was relaxed. ‘I have caused her so much pain’ he thought ‘yet she always comes back. My bright angel. Why?’ But he wasn’t complaining. Without her he was nothing and he knew most certainly that he wouldn’t even exist without her. Wouldn’t even want to try. She made life worth living. Her beauty, her soul, her ideals, all of her. He loved them all no matter what. He even loved what she called ‘her ugliness’ though he didn’t see it as ugliness but as a beautiful part of her that made her who she is today. Nikita stirred restlessy. Having been woken when Michael had started to unknowingly play with the long silky blonde strands of her hair. She smiled angelically as she opened her eyes but not for long. She saw a frown on Michael’s face. She reached up and gently kissed his jaw letting him know she was awake. “What’s wrong darling?” she asked. Michael sighed deeply, “Nothing” he assured her and bent down to kiss her a proper good morning. They both pulled away minutes later…”Michael…” she warned. “There’s nothing wrong” he said again trying to reassure her feelings. “I see” she replied coldly pulling away. “What do you see Kita?” he asked getting a pit feeling in his stomach. She turned away from him grabbing her robe and pulling it around herself suddenly feeling self-conscious of her nakedness. ‘He was doing it again. Shutting her out. They had just both talked about it last night before the wonderful night of lovemaking and he was aleady doing it again. Had nothing meant anything to him? Did last night have no meaning to them as a couple? A tear rolled down her cheeks at the thought. It had meant the world to her—but why couldn’t Michael understand?’ Michael got out of bed not bothering to put anything on and went over to her turned back. He held her shoulders. “What’s wrong Kita?” he asked getting worried. She sniffed…”Last night…it didn’t mean anything to you did it?” she asked. He turned her around to face him. His heart just about broke in half hearing those words and then seeing how unhappy she was. “How can you say that Kita?” he asked gently. “You know how much I love and want to be with you all the time” he said. “Do I?” she asked feeling her body start to go numb as she switched her emotions off. “Damn it Kita what has brought this on? We were just fine last night after we talked. What has happened since then?” “I’m going to take a shower” she replied. “Perhaps you’ll think of that answer by the time I’m done” she explained patiently and walked away. Michael felt like falling to the floor and crying his eyes out. ‘What had just happened?’ “Kita…” he whispered to himself as he pulled the pillow which still held her scent to his chest softly and did cry. ‘Why him? He had thought he had paid for his past crimes a million times over but maybe not’ he thought to himself. ‘Maybe not’ he repeated to himself as he dressed slowly and left the apartment. ‘Maybe he hadn’t paid enough on his sins and if that was so then he couldn’t allow himself to be with Kita. It wouldn’t be fair to her.’ As he drove to Section he was batting in himself…had he paid for his past crimes? He needed to answer that himself and soon or his life would soon take on no meaning at all. |
