Timeline Of TLC
1991
TLC is formed as a group and signed to a record deal with LaFace Records by their mentor and manager Pebbles. Lisa has to deal with her first setback. "My father died the same day Pebbles said she was going to sign us," she says. "And I got in the car, and for a whole hour, I was just dreaming about getting back with my father and trying to make things right. Then my mother called me that evening and told me my father had been killed. It was the best day of my life, but it turned into the worst evening of my life."

They returned to the Top 10 with "Baby, Baby, Baby" and "What About Your Friends." The LP and accompanying videos introduced TLC as street smart dance music performers with a mix of hip hop, R&B, and rap. The album sold over 4 million copies in the U.S.
March The single "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg" was certified gold. While on the "Hammer" tour, Tionne starts crying uncontrollably on the tour bus. No one knows what is wrong, so the bus continues on the 18 hour trek to Omaha. Stress had triggered one of the most painful attacks Tionne had ever experienced. TLC didn't make the stage that night, and T-Boz spent two weeks in the hospital, with Left Eye and Chilli by her side. This was the first time they realized something may not be right with Tionne.

February Cops are called to Andre Rison's house on February 22nd after a fight between him and Lisa. According to reports, Andre struck her several times and threw her to the floor. Lisa caught Andre with another woman and later decided to burn the teddy bears she had given him. She threw them in the marble tub and lit them on fire. She then doused the flames.
June Lisa and Andre's relationship is starting to fail. On June 8, Lisa decides to go out on the town with some friends. They got home in the early morning, but Andre still wasn't there. At approximately 6am he showed up, and Lisa ran up the driveway and continued to slap him. The fight then moved into their bedroom, where things got worse. This wasn't their usual scuffle Lisa says, "This was a real fight." Andre then left, and Lisa stumbled upon 20 boxes of sneakers. She was going to burn them as she did with the teddy bears, and set them on fire. This time she couldn't put out the blaze because the tub was replaced with fiberglass instead of marble. The house goes up in flames on June 9th. Left Eye avoided jail time with a drinking defense and was served with five years probation and a hefty fine. More press seemed to cover Left Eye's actions than the often violent relationship itself. Not thrilled with her defense attorneys highlighting her drinking to keep her out of jail or accusations of being a "crazy bitch," Left Eye found it necessary to succeed with her music even more. "The best way for me to get those people back is to succeed. I didn't struggle this far to have people tear me down. I came out of some shit where it was, like, I didn't know what I was doing. I finally started looking at myself like I'm worth something, and it's because I've accomplished everything people told me I wouldn't. The best way for me to get people back is to come back out even harder."
November
TLC achieved even more success with their
sophomore release - CrazySexyCool. The trio
hit #1 with the first 3 releases: "Creep," "Red Light

Game" and Prince-cover "If I Was Your Girlfriend." CrazySexyCool

1997
June Chilli
and Dallas Austin became parents to their son Tron (born June 2nd) and TLC
announced that the producer would not be helping out with their next LP due
to financial disputes. Left Eye told
MTV: "I'm just gonna be honest with everybody," Lopes said
while entering the Video Music Awards "Dallas recorded some songs
with TLC that we hadn't yet gone into record, but Dallas tried to charge us
$4.2 million, so he might not be on the project. So, we been fighting with
Dallas for about 10 months. We have not yet gone to the studio yet, and hey,
don't get mad at me, I just have to tell it like it is... He came down but,
he charged us more than Babyface!" Chilli then told MTV in
October that Dallas would be working on the next LP in some capacity.
1998
As TLC readied their next LP release T-Boz appeared in the film, Belly, Chilli spent time with her newborn son, and Left Eye could be found hosting MTV's The Cut.
June The movie "Hav Plenty" opens in theaters with a cameo appearance from Chilli. This will eventually fuel Chilli's desire to appear in more films...
July Left Eye announces her plans to release a solo disc in addition to TLC's upcoming album. The solo is pushed back numerous times. Tentatively titled "Fantasy1.com," Lisa says "It will be very flavorful - very left eye,"
November The original release date for TLC's third album was November 10, 1998. The album was pushed back 3 months (much to the dismay of fans) so everything could be completed and set in order.
1999
January TLC hit the Top 40 with "Silly Ho."
February The
first single heard on radio from TLC's 3rd LP Fanmail was
"Silly Ho" quickly followed by the more pop-friendly, "No
Scrubs." Chilli told USA Today about TLC's return: "I'm
excited, but a little
nervous. You want your fans to like you still and you wonder if they are
going to get into us again." Fanmail debuted at #1
on the LP charts and the single "No Scrubs" also hit #1 on the pop
charts in April. Left Eye said told MTV about the next single, "Unpretty":
"It's a great message. It's very uplifting. I makes you, you know,
dig down deep... really think about some things... if you listen to the
words... and really take them to heart, maybe you will start to see things
in a different perspective."
March Fanmail was certified 2x platinum. TLC hit the Top 10 with "No Scrubs." The album held the number one position for four straight weeks. TLC made a trek to Japan to promote the album.
April The single "No Scrubs" was certified gold and hit #1 for 3 weeks. TLC make their first public performance since the release of FanMail in the US on the Jay Leno Show.
May Fanmail was certified 3x platinum. Left Eye took some time off in May to return to her hometown in Philadelphia to attend a high-school prom with a fan, Malcolm Blair, who requested the date in letter. TLC hit the Top 40 with "No Scrubs." TLC also performs "No Scrubs" at the Kid's Choice Awards. They also perform the song live on Rosie O'Donnell in Orlando, FL. Meanwhile, Left Eye raised some eyebrows with comments to TLC's cover issue of Vibe magazine: "I've graduated from this era. I cannot stand 100% behind this TLC project and the music that is supposed to represent me." This begins TLC's internal conflicts.....publicly anyway.
June Fanmail was certified 4x platinum. TLC hit the Top 40 with "Unpretty." Blaque's self-entitled album hits music stores. Founded by Left Eye, Blaque has a strangely similar look and sound as compared to TLC. Blaque is Left Eye's first release from her Left Eye Productions corporation and lands her a lucrative deal with Sony to bring in more talent.
July CrazySexyCool was certified 11x platinum.

K-Ci & JoJo were originally supposed to open for TLC, but dropped out suddenly before the tour began. The album "Where I Wanna Be" by LaFace label mate Donell Jones is released to the public with an appearance from Left Eye on the track "U Know What's Up." The song is a great hit and scores large on the Billboard charts.
November The verbal sparring between members of TLC continued in the pages of Entertainment Weekly - first T-Boz and Chilli spoke out about Left Eye's lack of involvement with the group, and then Left Eye responded with her own criticisms and a challenge for her band mates: "Let it be understood that I am interested in making multimillion-dollar business deals. It seems that my two group members are not. This poses a serious conflict. Therefore, I propose 'The Challenge'. I challenge Tionne "Player" Watkins and Rozonda "Hater" Thomas to an album entitled The Challenge. A 3 CD set that contains three solo albums. Each...will be due to the record label by October 1, 2000... After careful analysis of the tangled political web woven by my associates, I place the burden of TLC's future in their hands..." Meanwhile T-Boz hits the bookstores with a poetry book, Thoughts. The book was released on November 3rd, the anniversary of her grandmother's death.
December Fanmail was certified 5x platinum. MTV's 100 Greatest Music Videos Ever Made includes "Waterfalls" at #40. Goodie Mob releases their new album "World Party" which includes the TLC-collaboration "What It Ain't (Ghetto Enuff)." The song spawns a hit single and video.

upcoming MOBO Awards, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes is proclaimed
'missing' by her friends and family. "I'm very
concerned," Lopes' friend and business partner Ian Burke told the New
York Post. Burke was the last to see the performer when he visited her
at her Atlanta apartment on the Thursday prior to Labor Day. "I
don't know whether or not she's okay," Burke said. "At
first, I thought she may have just wanted to get away for a while, but then
her assistant called me and said she never showed up for the press
conference [to promote an awards show she was to host in London] ... She's
never done anything like this before." Meanwhile Left Eye is
seen in public fleeing the media and appears on different radio stations.
Flyers are also distributed proclaiming a contest to find Left Eye. Is
she missing or playing?
October Left Eye co-hosts the European MOBO Awards and proves in fact that she is NOT missing. She makes no less than six costume changes throughout the show, and also performs "U Know What's Up" with label mate Donell Jones. At this point Lisa is said to have approximately 25 songs completed for her album. Rapper Shyne has also asked her to appear on his upcoming album. Lisa has a 2-page article in MC2 magazine talking about her home production studio.
April LaFace, Arista, and Bad Boy begin re-releasing "Maximum Hits" - a collection of singles from the most popular artists. TLC has three singles that will be re-released, including "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg," "Creep," and "Waterfalls." T-Boz appears on Hot 97.5 with Ryan Cameron and tells listeners that TLC will begin working on a new album in May and that it will be out at the end of 2001. All three girls will record separately.
May MTV reports that hot new producer the Rockwilder has done a track for Left Eye's new album. In a CyberTLC World interview with Lisa's brother Ron, he also claims she will be working with the Neptunes and that Lisa wants a single out by summer 2001. TLC begins work on a new group album. Leslie Brathwaite, one of Dallas Austin's engineers working with the girls on the new album in LA, says that the girls have "Two songs finished so far.....on FIRE !!!!!!!!" Rumors begin circulating in the AJC and on Hot 97.5 that Chilli and Dallas Austin have broken up. Arista spokesperson Matt Shelton denies this rumor and also claims that TLC is NOT working on a new album. Chilli also appears in Usher's new video, "You Remind Me."
June Left Eye sets release date of new album, "Supernova," for August 14, 2001. The first single will be "Block Party," and a video will be shot around the California area. Confirmed song titles include "Block Party," "Life Is Like A Park," "Hot," "I Believe In Me," and "Untouchable," which includes a previously unreleased verse by 2Pac. In other Left Eye news, media sources are reporting that she and Andre Rison are to be married at the Botanical Gardens in Atlanta in July. Andre Rison mentioned it on a radio station, while the only comment Lisa has to give says "We are together, but when it happens, it happens."
July MTV announces that a 'reunited TLC' will perform on the 20th Anniversary Special on August 1st. Chilli and Usher are still rumored to be dating, and word has it he has even bought her a diamond tennis bracelet. Meanwhile, Left Eye and Andre Rison's wedding has been postponed while Lisa shoots her first video for the song "The Block Party" with Hype Williams. The video is shot in California, and fans in the area are invited to be in the video and meet Left Eye. Lisa is also trying to start a nationwide street team to help promote her album. Radio stations have begun to play the first single, as well as the radio single "Hot."
August Left Eye's album is 'delayed,' but all tracks are streamed on the Internet via Left Eye's official website at www.eyenetics.com. Fans have mixed reactions to the new sound. Word has it that Arista wants Lisa to go back in the studio to record some new tracks to beef the album up.
September Left
Eye's visited the CyberTLC World Message Board to address the rumors and
talk that TLC wasn't getting along. "OH
GOODNESS...
PLEASE CALM DOWN. WE ARE ALL HAPPY THE WAY THINGS ARE RIGHT NOW NO MATTER IF
IT'S CLASSIFIED AS BUSINESS OR FRIENDSHIP. TECHNICALLY, THIS IS WORK. IT'S
HOW WE FEED OUR FAMILIES. IF YOU ARE TRUE TO THE HISTORY OF TLC THEN YOU
WOULD KNOW THAT OUTSIDE OF WORK, WE NEVER HUNG OUT. WE ENJOY OUR PERSONAL
SPACE & HAVE A LOVE FOR EACH OTHER THAT WILL NEVER DIE! GET
REAL..." Chilli appears in
the new Usher video for "You Got It Bad." This is now his
second video that she has appeared in.
October While on a European media blitz to promote "Supernova," Lisa was interviewed by Radio 1 and the new TLC album came up. "We've just started working on our fourth LP, but it's very much in the beginning stages. I'll be juggling both TLC and my solo career for the next year until TLC release their next album. But we're still very much together," she said. According to Lisa, "The focus is to...go back to the old days. And that fun and that energy that you heard on the very first album, that's what we're going to put into this album, into the fourth LP." Ja Rule has said on MTV that he wrote a song for TLC called "Rainy Days" that will appear on their new album. Chilli shows up in the new straight-to-video release "Ticker." She plays the part of Lily......a crack fiend. Very different role for her! T-Boz and Chilli also appear in the R&B version of the track "What's Going On," a response to the World Trade Center bombing. They do not appear in the video. T-Boz also appears on the cover of the new Vibe magazine. She missed the original photo shoot and had to be digitally inserted!
November Left Eye's album has been released overseas for sometime now, including "The Block Party" single. US fans can only buy the album and single on import. Meanwhile, the Hype Williams directed video never airs on MTV, BET, or VH1. The video is, however, included on the single import for "The Block Party." During this time, Left Eye is taken off the Arista roster because, according to her, they failed to pay her the money she was owed and wanted her to record new tracks, which was not in the contract. At this point, it doesn't appear as if "Supernova" will ever be released. Meanwhile, TLC has been recording heavily in California for the new group album. Left Eye says of the TLC album: "TLC is THA BOMB. Album will be the best so far from what We have already and the way things are going." What about a release date? "We're shooting for a summer release. 2002." Producers that TLC are planning to work with at this point include Dr. Dre, Missy Elliot, Dallas Austin, Babyface, Ja Rule, Jam & Lewis, and Saadiq. In a Lycos chat with Left Eye, she claimed "I've created a concept that we all love." She also said that they do have an album title picked out, but it is "Top secret :-)" Left Eye also said that she would be returning to the CyberTLC Message Board "Very soon" to speak with the fans. In other news, Left Eye has signed to Tha Row Records, headed by Suge Knight. She is no longer known as Left Eye nor 'Supernova 3.-16," but rather as NINA - "New Identity Non Applicable" she says. Fans are angered and upset that Lisa has decided to sign with Knight. Lisa is also running a contest for a fan to design a new tattoo to get inked into her skin for life, signifying the death of something old and the birth of something new - in other words, leaving Arista and moving to Tha Row. She also claims that she will have more raps this time around. Word also has it that Left Eye will be appearing on Ray-J's album......a fellow Tha Row label mate.
December T-Boz and baby Chase have finally appeared in print. The two show up in the December issue of Ebony magazine. TLC appeared as a group on the Soul Train Christmas special wishing everyone a Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year. This is the first time they have appeared together as a group, in public, in quite some time. They seemed to be the same old TLC, having a lot of fun together! T-Boz has also been seen hosting a few episodes of the VH1 show 'Arsenio Jams.' Rumors are also circulating that Usher and Chilli are engaged, but Chilli claims that they are only dating at this point. From denial......to admittance.
2002
January According to the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine, TLC's new group effort has a street date set for October. Left Eye claimed, however, that the new album would be out around summer 2002. Fans adopt a 'wait-and-see' policy at this point. Meanwhile, TLC have taken a break from recording the new album as T-Boz had a sickle-cell attack. During this time Lisa has been focusing on the new NINA album and recording for that, as well as trying to get her clothing line off the ground. Also, TLC fans have found out that the song "Rainy Dayz" which Ja Rule wrote for the new TLC album has been given to Mary J. Blige for her re-release of "No More Drama." No word on why it didn't become a TLC cut, but it was obviously written for the girls, with lyrics such as "....crazy, sexy, cool...." and "...didn't we tell you before about chasin' those waterfalls?" TLC is also meeting with Pileated Pictures at this point to discuss a new Official TLC Site. Pileated Pictures is the company responsible for Left Eye's www.eyenetics.com site. Meanwhile, T-Boz and Chilli appear in the new episode of In Style: Celebrity Weddings when they attended Toni Braxton's wedding. Also, Wendy Williams interviews Suge Knight on the radio, and some disturbing things are said. According to Suge, Chilli performed had several striptease routines for Death Row artists during past studio sessions, and that Chilli and her former boyfriend, producer Dallas Austin, were bisexual. He also said that T-Boz doesn't look as good since she had her child. The only reference to Left Eye was that she was signed to his label under NINA, but nothing bad was said about her. TLC fans are buzzing over the disses, and the fact that Left Eye has signed with him. Also, Left Eye and Andre Rison have split up again. According to Rison, "She's a good friend of mine. We decided to part ways," he told Hot-107.9 producer Akini. "We're both happy doing our thing. I wish her a prosperous career and all that." Lisa also visits the Eyenetics forum and posts a rather disturbing entry about what she did on New Years. "WHAT'S UP CHRIS??? MY SUPERNOVA PASSWORD ISN'T WORKING. IS THAT A SIGN OR SOMETHING? ANYWAY... WHAT'S UP EVERYONE!!! HOW WAS YOUR CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEARS? DON'T BE AFRAID TO SAY IT SUCKED IF IT DID! MY CHRISTMAS WAS GREAT! MY NEW YEAR WAS HORRIBLE! I WAS UPSET CAUSE I WAS ALL ALONE!
