August 1997 - Las Vegas & Grand Canyon
This was the summer that as absolutely awful for me (a lot of crap was happening to me that summer) so it was good to get away from the country for a while. It was my first time going to the Nevada area. Unfortunately I was only 16 but.. did that stop me from playing the slots? Nooo! haha! Only bringing a total of $3US with me on the trip, I couldn't afford to play quarter slots.. so I thrived off playing nickle slots! I did until I got caught! Dammit!
Vegas is such a bright city! It's was awesome seeing Vegas when flying in. Vegas is basically in the middle of nowhere.. so from the plane, I saw this bright cluster of lights, surrounded by darkness. In Vegas, we lived off buffets. they were so cheap and you only had to eat two meals a day (brunch and dinner) to survive. Kat and I had a chance to catch a free magic show (my parents didn't go.. they had won 2 tickets to see a magic show by spinning this giant wheel when we were walking around). It was.. interesting! haha!
For the nxt few days, my family rented a car and drove all over the place. We got to visit the Hoover Dam (which is huge!!) and many national parks including Bryce National Park Petrified Forest National Park and Grand Canyon National Park. It was kewls.. I got a chance to hike down the Grand Canyon! I didn't hike down all the way... maybe just a little over half way. It was awesome! Even though it was humid and the sun was scorching, i had the best time! I saw many people hiking down with sleeping bags and tents.. I wanna do that someday.. while i'm still young!
After travelling around, we went back to Las Vegas where we got to stay at Excalibur (it's the medievil castle hotel). That was kewls! We stayed there for a few nights then flew back to Toronto!!
