“Portfolio Reflection”

Wow.  I cannot believe that I have actually built my own website from scratch!  If you know me, or have ever been near me when I am merely in the vicinity of a computer (or any electronic device for that matter), you have seen that I am, to put it nicely, completely clueless.  That said, I am very proud of putting together my website, and I hope that other people will now be able to enjoy my work.

Clearly, for me, the entire technical aspect of my portfolio was the most difficult and frustrating.  The writing pieces linked to my page are more in my ballpark.  Of these, I found the Mock Trial portfolio for the novel Lord of the Flies the most challenging to write, mainly because I was forced to synchronize my work with the work of others.  I found the “definition essay” and the “rules essay” to be tedious, although I felt my essay, “The Rules,” was very sophisticated.  The monotony I felt in writing these essays probably resulted from the fact that they were very structured, and because the subject matter did not capture my interest.  Most definitely my “character essay” on Ashley Olsen was the most fun to write, and therefore also my favorite of the assignments.  It gave me a chance to live out some fantasies in my head and imagine what it would be like to be a beautiful, popular, role model actress!  I also enjoyed making the Catcher in the Rye soundtrack for my final project, although the hardest part of it was the writing – explicating the songs and finding text-based evidence from the novel.  Finally, I also had no complaints regarding my essay, “Daddy’s Little Girl’s Grow Up.”  I was interested in the subject, and it did not feel like too much work, rather I naturally wanted to explore the father-daughter relationships about which I wrote.  I am happy with the outcome, and hope that it has helped prepare me for future “Task III” essays to come.

Overall, I am ecstatic with my website.  I have conquered my fear and hatred of my computers in order to display all my significant pieces of writing for the semester.  I hope that others enjoy my site and my work.  Creating this has truly been a great experience!
