Emeligh (orginially spelt Emily) Austin and Marie Knight met in 1994 at DuPont Elementary in Mrs. Hughes 4th grade class. Emeligh was new so Marie went over and introduced herself and the two clicked. All that day Marie introduced Emeligh to people she knew. In 1997 Marie had her 15th birthday party on January 3rd 1997 and there Emeligh met two ex group members who names won't be revealed for privacy. All 4 girls clicked because they liked similar things: including the band Hanson. The 4 decided to become a pure pop group. In 1999 the group had a few problems and Emeligh slowly left without saying anything almost joining a few other groups and singing solo. Marie and the other two still sang as a group. In 2000 Emeligh came back to the group and began to sing with the other 3 again. In 2000 the 4th (and youngest) member left the group because she didn't want to sing the style of music the other's wanted to sing. So it was Emeligh, Marie, and the 3rd girl. In August of 2000 Emeligh and Marie were an upcoming pop/R&B duo called "Get Real." The 3rd came back and they changed their name to KES. Since someone else had that name (and for a while) they changed their name to "Diverisity." Emeligh and Marie in 2001 officially became an R&B/Rap duo because they can do more together. Marie used to be in choir in 5th grade and in choir from 6-7th and 9-11th and Emeligh was in marching band for 4 yrs and concert band for 6 and a half. Some song titles the girls have written are called "Tell Me Now", "Now", "Don't Even Try", "I Try", "You Can't Have Me,"and "Fuck Off." The group likes to think they're going to change the music scene. "We wanna show you don't have to be beautiful and skinny to be talented! That's our message. We also want to do everything. From helping make up dance moves to how we want our CD to sound like. We want to show that we're a totally non-manufactured group."~quoted by Emeligh. The group writes about things that normal teenage girls go through. All the way from love like a boyfriend leaving you to someone trying to take your boyfriend away, a boyfriend wanting you back, and friendship. "People our ages I think can relate more to our music because it's what we've been through. But we hope everybody can love what we write and show."~quotes Emeligh. Diverisity has been compared to T.L.C. (minus one) and Destiny's Child. We hope you can enjoy Diverisity and support their career! |
