Past: When he was young his parents had died (forgot of what) so he was sold to slave traders. They were three kind girls who died trying to protect him from some killers (or bandits) Hiko (A strong Samuri) who was passing by came and killed the bandits. Leaving Shinta.(That was Kenshin's childhood name) Later he found Shinta in a clearing filled with graves that he had made himself for the bandits and the three women who had protected him. Hiko took heart and decided to train him, and change his name to Kenshin. Soon Kenshin became so skilled at the sword style Hiko was teaching him he wanted to become an assaisan to help people. And he did become one. He was so good they called him Battousai the manslayer. After killing a young woman named Tomoe's husband to be, he fell in love with her as she did with him. But later he accdently killed her as she threw herself in the middle of an intense battle. Since then he had vowed never to kill again.

About: Her parents had died and since then she had taken over the dojo and continued teaching the Kamiya Kasshin Ryu. She dosn't have many students though, because a man was going about killing people with the style she teaches, and he called himself the Battousai (not really). Of course the real Battousai was just wandering around and Kaoru confronted the him angrily. He told her he was not Battousai so she left him alone and confronted the fake one and almost got killed if kenshin had not saved her. Soon she figured out he was the real Battousai but she accepted him for who he was and soon fell in love

About: When Sanosuke was 10, the Sekihou Tai, a civilian army, came through his hometown promising the peasants that if the Imperialists won the war, they would all be given new land, because that's what they had been told when they joined the Imperialist army. Sano left his family to join their ranks, even though he was a little younger than ten years old. The captain of the Sekihou, Souzou Sagara, was a kind man who took Sanosuke under his wing and treated him like an apprentice or a younger brother. Sanosuke idolized Sagara, and took his captain's last name as his own. However, near the end of the war, the Sekihou Tai was ambushed by government they served and put to death because they had spread the news of the promises made that could not be kept. Sagara threw Sanosuke over a cliff to safety, and as Sanosuke fell he saw Sagara being gunned down by the government soldiers. After Sagara's death, Sanosuke decided to become a mercenary and fight to avenge the death of his boss and mentor. He became an adept fighter and gangster, beating people up and gambling for money to survive. He fought with a gigantic sword called a zanbatou, earning him the nickname "Zanza." He took up residence in Tokyo and basically existed on a day-to-day basis. All of this changed when he was hired by Hiruma Gohei to kill the recently reappeared Hitokiri Battousai, Kenshin Himura. He was defeated by Kenshin but came to respect him and joined his party.

Luckily Kenshin saved him from them. Yahiko wanted to be strong so Kaoru took him as one of her students and he became part of the 'family'

About: Soujiro's parents died when he was young and was taken in by his cruel adoptive father, who took him in so that their reputation wouldn't be ruined. Soujiro was often beaten and soon reliezed that they only hurt him worse when he cried so instead he smiled. They often would stop when he smiled because it confused them. Soon it became the only expression he had, he hid any other emotion through a sweet charming smile. When his foster family are about to kill him one day because they find him aiding a dangourous criminal, Shishio. Soujiro kills them all. Shishio then makes him his apprentice and he becomes the right hand of Shishio.

About: Misao's father, Okashira, the former leader of the Oniwa Banshu, left her under the care of the warriors of his group. She became quite fond of her comrades exspecially Aoshi ^.~. Kenshin came upon Misao while she's robbing some men of their also stolen money. Misao explains she's just trying to get to Kyoto to follow Aoshi whom she loves. Aoshi had left her in the care of an old man while he was gone. Kenshin tries to lose her, but Misao ends up traveling with him anyway.
