Codes of conduct

 Players

1.               Take part in the sport for your enjoyment, not just to please you parents or coach.

2.               The aim of the games is to enjoy them, feel good and improve your skills.

3.               Work for yourself and your team, your team’s performance and your own will benefit.

4.               Be a good sport.

5.               Do not show off, hog the play or score the most goals at the expense of your team mates.

6.               It isn’t whether you win or lose – but how you play the game.

7.               Control your temper, aggression and language.

8.               The use of alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited.

9.               Do not bully or take advantage of any other player.

10.            Play the rules.

11.            Never argue with officials – let your coach or captain ask any questions.

12.            Co-operate with your team mates, opponents and officials – without them you do not have a game.

Players are the most important people in the game.  Playing for the team and for the team to win, is the most fundamental part of the game, but not at any cost.  Fair play and respect for all others in the game is important.

Parents

13.            Do not force any young people to take part in the sport.

14.            Encourage your child to play by the rules.

15.            Teach your child that effort & teamwork are as important as victory, so that the result of each game is accepted without disappointment.

16.            Never ridicule your child for making mistakes or losing.

17.            Do not publicly question the judgement and honesty of officials.

18.            Do not harass or swear at players or officials.

19.            Respect the official’s decision.

20.            Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from the sport.

21.            Condemn the use of violence in all forms.

22.            Recognise the value & importance of coaches; they give up their time, energy and resources to provide for your child.

Young people take part in the sport for their own entertainment and are not professional entertainers.  They all develop differently and will react in a variety of different ways when under pressure.  Young people learn by example, if you set a bad one the sport will suffer and so will the youngsters.

Coaches

1.               Respect the rights, dignity and worth of each player and treat each one equally.

2.               Place the well being and safety of each player above all other considerations, including the development of performance.

3.               Clarify with players & parents exactly what is expected of them and what they can expect from their coach.

4.               Encourage young people to play by the rules.

5.               Encourage & guide players to take responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.

7.               Never shout abuse at players.

8.               Never encourage the team to be offensive.

9.               Never enter the playing area during play.

10.            Never shout abuse at officials.

11.            Do not publicly question the judgement of officials.

12.            Remember the official’s decision is always final!

Coaches are key to the establishment of ethics in football.  Their own ethics and attitude directly effects the behaviour of players under their supervision.  The health, safety, welfare and moral education of young people are of utmost importance, before the achievement or reputation of the club or coach
