Month 4

Week 13

This week I am planning my treats. I have a terrible sweet tooth and have a hard time staying away from dessert. But if I plan for things like hard candy and fat free pudding, I can satisfy my sweet tooth without gaining a lot of calories. Plus I am less likely to dip into the ice cream.
The Reward: I'll go out dancing.

Week 14

I will eat my dessert a few hours after dinner. I know lots of people say we aren't supposed to eat after 7 pm or whatever. But if I eat dessert right after dinner, I end up eating a snack later too. If I save my dessert until later, I am getting rid of one whole snack!
The Reward: A visit to the bookstore!

Week 15

I will keep the TV off all week, including for the kids. If the TV is not on we will have to find something more active to do. Today the kids and I went rollerblading. The following links mainly have to do with kids and TV. I guess adults feel only kids have a problem with TV!

Week 16

We all need calcium for strong bones and teeth. And the latest research shows that women who eat more calcium actually lose more weight. But we don't need the high fat in most dairy foods. This week I will be switching to low-fat and fat free dairy products. I will use skim milk on my whole grain cereal, fat free yogurt for snacks, and lowfat cheeses to cook with. I will check off in my health journal to make sure I get my 2-3 servings of dairy a day. For other ideas:

The Reward: I am going to set aside time every day to write in my journal

Week 17

It's getting warmer and becoming even more important to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. This week I will write in my health journal how many glasses of water I drank. I will also use post-it notes on my computer, planner, kitchen fridge and other places to remind me to drink my water. I have found it helpful to keep a pitcher of water in the fridge so it is always cold and you don't have to keep getting the ice cubes out. Here is an article on the importance of water:

The Reward: Visit some local art galleries
