Les wrote that he hopes all the participants in this forum should arrange to meet during the Games. Les, the good news is that there will be hundreds of opportunities for us all to see each other during the Games. In all likelihood, Coca Cola will set u
one or two major trading centres and a couple of other favourite sites will pop up around the place. I know that I'll be spending most of the 400 or so hours during the Games at these pin trading areas. Of course, being the optimitst that I am, I will
ave to allocate some time to go along to every swimming heat and final.
PS. anyone got any new swimming pins?

"In reply to all of those messages about "paying up front" for Olympic Tickets, has anyone noticed that if you wish to pay by Visa card you will not be charged until after you have been awarded your tickets. As far as anyone can work out this was done as
art of the sponsorship deal with Visa to try and encourage that form of payment.
As for Les' coment about Australians ordering and not paying for the tickets, mate I wish I had your faith in the human race (not that I am getting down on Aussies or anything, its just that there are always a few bad apples that can mess it up for everyo
e, no matter where you are or what you are doing).
No matter what happens with the ticketing policy, I think anyone who misses out on this opportunity of a life time (by choice, even if it is just a $20 ticket to anything) must be Crazy. I hope to see all of you guys there!!! Chris"

David,
If you are a investor, yes, it will cost you a lot of money for this month's pins. However, if a collector buying 2-3 pins each. I think many people can afford it. I saw many investors/collectors bought over 20 pins per release, and its very common.

Hello again, fancy even thinking that Australians would order tickets and then not pay for them! I really think that SOCOG just wants the money to invest on the short term money market and make heaps of interest at our expense. A more fairer system would b
to still have the "lottery" but allow successful "winners" to pay for their tickets in 12 months time or even by instalments. By the way, we were prepared for such an ocasion and have the money to pay anway, it's just that I still think people are being
got at. I also have a sneaking suspicion that at least 99.999% of successful winners will be from Sydney!

In reply to your post Les, in Atlanta it was the same situation. The purpose of the pay up front scheme is to ensure you "put your money where your mouth is" type aspect. If SOCOG let you apply and then pay, how many will default for any reason - and what
are they to do with the tickets then? One of my friends has been saving $20 a week since we won - and she has $7000.00 to spend on tickets. I realsied about 6 months ago - and have been saving furiously. I guess all it then comes down to will be luck - an
with only 4 weeks until the distribution, time to save those dollars!

Obviously the "Site By Netergy" can be seen everywhere in Pinwrokx website, so "Atal Hakikat" (whoever you are) from info@netergy.net (if you are using the real email address). Are you trying to promote your own website? If so, please don't act as a third

I think people don't mind others to promote their own stuffs here, but don't try to fool us by such a silly message...
BTW, the next message by "Bernie" (artroom@bigpond.com). Not only posting 3 mins after that, but also using the same IP address....... well... people are not stupid.....

Hi,
In reply to here@me.com , well, it's very hard to say.
For most coins and cards shop, as they are selling collectables, the price are always inflated. Sure you cannot
ask them to sell you a 1948 1c coin at 1c today.
I don't think the law requires them to sell goods at RRP.
As the term RRP only means "Recommended", it's a free market. If you are not happy about the price, you simply not
go and buy it.
I'm not good at laws, you can read the New South Wales Consolidated Acts - PRICES REGULATION ACT 1948, which you can find it from
http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/pra1948197/
Basically they hide more than half of the stock, then keep until the market price goes up. Release it again with inflated prices. When you think about it, isn't it all we collectors are doing ??? The only difference is we need to queue up and buy at RRP,
hey don't, get as many as they can at wholesale price....

Reposted here from the Guestbook:
Why are so many retailers charging inflated prices for *new* retail pin issues as soon as they get them? Examples - City Centre Souvenirs (don't go here; they are also very rude), Macquarie Coins, KJC... I have even seen Lowes getting in on the profits,
harging $25 for a 699 Sleeps pin. Isn't there a law against retailers putting 100%+ markups on pins they only just received? Or even worse: holding on to limited pins at the back of the shop for a few months & then selling them at stupidly inflated pric
s! This is disgusting in my opinion; they will not get repeat sales & will lose customers, as simple as that.

Subject: Too Many Pins?
Country: USA
Comments:
Hi,
I became a "pin head" during the 1996 Atlanta Paraolympics. I was a volunteer during regular games time and had a great time.
I saw the pin fever build to even higher points post games time. But over the months thereafter, it became a core group of pin collectors. It was a way of reliving some of the better moments of games times.
I have since moved from Atlanta last spring, but am getting my pin "fix" by trading with a friend in Sydney. When I last made it to the Varsity pin swap on the 3rd Wednesday of February, 99, I heard that "too many pins" are being made for the upcoming
games. The quality of the pins is good. Therefore, they weren't interested in my Oz traders, because there was no "value" there.
But considering the zillions of pins that were made for Atlanta, I find that comment amusing. Pins to me are always worth based more on emotional circumstances than true value. However, I love those pewter Benson House ones. They have more "value" th
n an chunk of plastic.
I must say I've enjoyed getting some of the more recent "pretty" pins from my friend, Millie with Flowers, Fireworks pin, Mascots in Eggs. I'm even amazed to read how my early "days to go pins" have "appreciated" in value. But as a true pin head, I pr
bably won't sell them or trade them away unless something really, really tempting comes my way. Since I'm naive about what is really valuable, I probably never will. I've dealt with some honest dealers/collectors over time. I've also seen my share of "
nakes in the grass". So as long as you are aware of who they are, just take care in your dealings with them.
Further, I am amazed that there are such things as "limited pins" sold on one day pin. None were ever attempted to be sold in that fashion, that I was every aware of in Atlanta, except maybe some Coke pins for 1998. But then I didn't start collecting
tlanta pins until very late. So, don't be dismayed by finding pins every where. It's a sign of things to come (if Atlanta's experience holds true): pins in grocery stores, drug stores, department stores, gas stations and in rolling carts.
