No Simone, there wan't a 799 STG Pin produced. I think the powers to be didn't realise the " sleeps" pins would be a goer. My own personal opinion of the 699 STG with flashing lights is that it wasn't anything special. We have been collecting pins, various not just Olympic, for 12 years or so and we have flashing light pins from at least 5 years ago, so they weren't a first for Australia. Just another sidelight whilst on the subject of Stg pins, the special container for the countdown pins doesn't allow fo the STGpins. Not complaining mind you, just pointing it out. Happy collecting.

I hope I am not repeating myself but I tried to write in the guestbook earlier and it seemed to have disappeared!! What I actaully have is a question to pose that I hope someone will have the answer to because it is really annoying me!! We have a 899stg 699stg, 599stg, 499stg and 399stg. WHAT HAPPENED TO 799STG??????? I'm wondering if I missed some important peice of info along the way about why there isn't one. The answer might be obvious to some and if it is, could someone please enlighten me by emailing me!!! I'd really love to know.....

G'day all, Dell and I went to the swapmeet at Mt.Gravatt showgrounds this morning and mey Brian. Unfortunately we didn't have a lot of time to spare as we are going to Singapore for a week on monday. I don't know if any one else turned up who collects pin but hopefully Brisbane will be able to host a swapmeet if not equivalent to Sydney, then at least one that will give other collectors a chance to meet and do some trades. I have a few spare pins that if I can't swap then I am willing to sell if anyone is interested. The prices won't be inflated but will be very reasonable. E.G. I have some of the weeks to go, 800, 700, 600 and a 550 DTG pins, Torch announcent and torch pin. If anyone who missed out on the first lot of pins and are just getting into the co lecting mode, give mea call if you are interested or else I'll just advertise in the weekend shopper. Happy collecting everyone.

Whilst cruising e-bay during the week I came across some unusual pins. They were the 3 Olympic Mascots with a Coca Cola bottle on their left and had 2 different outlines. One in Gold the other in Silver. These are fakes. I find it hard enough to get the r al Olympic pins from Coke. Anything for a dollar I suppose. P.S I'm glad you liked the pin I sent you Les and I hope you are feeling better.

Hi, if anyone is living in or around Brisbane you might be pleased to know that a swapmeet will be held on the 8th of August fom 9 am until 1pm at the Mt Gravatt showground. Brian Craig, who is organising the meet, mainly deals in sport and fantasy art ca ds, however he has caught the bug and is branching out into Olympic pins and would love to have anyone interested come along, make some new pin friends and generate some Brissie pin fever! Unfortunately Craig hasn't got a computer so I offered to put this message on the net for him but if you want some more info his telephone number is (07) 3849 7822. Thanks for reading this and I hope there are some Brissie pin collectors out there eager for a swapmeet!

Thanks Mat for reminding me.
Any how the following pictures are the two different versions of the Torch Relay announcement pins. The one on the left side is the original version made by Trofe and the right one is the forgery one made by unknown manufacturer.
* The forgery pin has got a thicker white outline around the running man and "National Route Announcement" lettering is shorter and bolder.
* The forgery pin is thicker, heavier and the gold plating is much sharper, backstamp is also deeper.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT:It seems no one has mentioned about the forgery that has currently hit the market, so I may as well spell it out. The Torch Relay announcement pin from 31-10-98 has showed up in numbers and it has been confirmed that it has been cou terfeited. Mike should have pictures posted up on his site shortly and we mentioned it in the Kingpin Pinclub newsletter. (For those who are unaware of the pinclub, we send out a weekly newsletter with at least two pages of updates on retail, sponsor and imited edition releases, along with auction results and jsut about anything else you could think of. The cost for an email subscription is $10 for six months and $20 for twelve months. We also give away prizes of pins and pinsets, and as any member will t ll you, it something you shouldn't miss out on. Contact me at the above address or collectomaniacs@msn.com.au and we can send you a free sample). Now back to the forgery, if you have the original pin you can measure the thickness at around 1mm. The forger es are almost twice the thickness at around 2mm. The wording "National Route Announcement" is also thicker than the original and the back of the forgery is a much golder colour and has no diemarks. The differences are fairly obvious and the forgery comes n the standard red coloured pin and also a gold unfilled version (sold as a "rare" prototype). DO NOT PAY EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS FOR THESE FORGERIES as you will only be making a thief a rich person. Cheers, Mat Maurer

Can anyone please tell me anything about a set of trofe pins that I bought at Lowes awhile ago. There are three of them altogether in a pin pack with a limited edition of 2000. They have the running man and the olympic rings on them in gold. The three pin have different coloured backgrounds of red, white and blue with the pin numbers being #9-33011-2,#9-33021-2 and #9-33031-2. None of the websites I've searched seems to mention them. Any clues?

Hi, Pinworkx no longer sells pins online, they are so kind to list the address of the Olympic Store Online in their own website. Unfortunately when you try to use that URL you will receive an error.... well , because they gave us the incorrect URL. The correct URL is

Both myself and Les appear to be the only people adding anything to this forum of late. Has everyone gone to sleep out there? If anyone was wondering it was the 500 day pin I was talking about the last time I wrote. I forgot to proof read the article prio to posting it. The quality of the latest pins released just keeps getting better and better and the detail is just great. I managed to get my hands on both of the Benson House production sets and everyone I have shown these to are amazed at how good they look. The distribution of pins in the Hunter Valley region has improved and some are easier to get a hold of but the lower mintage ones are still a problem. Also working nearly every day that a pin has been release prevents me from trying to place a phone order with most suppliers. Thats life I suppose. You have to work to be able to afford the vast number of pins released. Well thats it from me for now. Happy collecting.

It is almost like pulling hen's teeth, but I am hoping that there is SOMEONE out there who varies their collection. Please give me a call if youare interested. Les

Not many comments being made lately. Is everyone happy at the moment? Wondering if anyone knows how I could get my hands on the Olympic Security Pins that are pictured on the opening page (the ones with the police logo's) I still haven't managed to get a 00 day to go pin but I suppose I will come across one in due time. Can't believe they sold out so quick. I had better luck getting all the other count down pins. Take care everyone
