Riot City - Biography

Marvin the Paranoid Android (aka Martin Jennings) arrived in Australia in the late seventies from the U.K. and quickly set about building a reputation as the leader of the notorious Warren Skins. Having a keen ear for both Ska and Punk but no notable talent his first venture into the wonderful world of music was as a drummer in a very dodgy punk band called Warsaw Pact. But after only three gigs he decided to give up the sticks and the whole band lifestyle.

Within the small but ever growing Sydney Ska scene he soon become one of the faces, especially after setting the pace with his cool dance moves, sharp English skinhead clothing and even sharper over accessorised Vespa. But it was his stint as an old style ska DJ that finally put him on the map. It seemed as though he had given up any musical aspirations until he suddenly appeared as the new lead singer for C15, a local Oi! band. Around this time Sydney suffered a sense of humour failure when it came to skinheads, because of a growing number of Nazis finding their way into the pubs and clubs so the band broke up shortly afterwards.

It was nearly ten years later that he musically reappeared this time as the lead singer/guitarist in The DTs, yet another Oi! band. Even though the band played regularly he was still not happy and not long after changing their name to Riot Squad the band broke up. He was quickly snapped up by the members of Groin and took on the roll of lead singer and bass player. He stayed 3 years through various line-up changes until he eventually joined The Last Hemeroids, a young trash-punk outfit. Over the next five years he helped transform them into one of Sydney hardest working Ska/Oi! bands

As the singer in the band Marvin found he still needed a musical outlet and so introduced the keys into a couple of the bands more ska orientated tracks. However, it was not until he overheard talk, at the punks picnic, of a new old skool ska cover band being formed by King Ruffy that he finally found his true calling. Having signed Mark H (sax player for The Last Hemeroids) and himself up as the keyboard player he set about making sure that Riot City would be more than just another one of Ruffy's pipedreams....
