Interview with Ruth Perini: Q. Why do you want to write for children? Children's books have been the ones I've most enjoyed reading, both when I was a child and when I read them with my own children. Q. What do you like the most about kids books? Funny, moving, warm, honest - they remind me that I'm still a child at heart. Q. How and when did you decide you wanted to write kids books? When I used to read them with my children. Q. What was your favorite book when you were a kid? "Snugglepot and Cuddlepie" Q. What are you reading at the moment? I've just finished "Next Stop the Moon" by Susanne Gervay, which had all those qualities of being funny, moving, warm, honest, and also reminded me of my own childhood. Q. What was your first published piece of writing and when? I had poems published in the Children's Section of the Sunday papers when I was about 10. Q. Have you had anything published or accepted for the publication recently? I had two poems published in a book called "Australia's Best Poetry" last year. Q. Where do you find your inspiration? Human emotions and relationships. Q. Any advice for anyone who wants to write for kids? Do it! |
