2 1/2 c flour
1 egg, beaten
1/4 c grated parmesan cheese
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 t sugar (optional)
3/4 c chicken or beef broth
1/4 c tomato sauce
Mix flour, half parmesan, and sugar together. Add egg, garlic and 1/2 cup of broth.
Mix well (add more water as needed, we are looking for a smooth dough that we can knead)
Turn dough out on floured surface and knead a few x's. Roll out 1/4" thick.
Cut w/floured cookie cutter (I used a shot glass for the cutter). Place on lightly greased
cookie sheet (will not rise, so may be placed close together).
With pastry brush, baste lightly with any remaining broth.
Place in 350 degree oven for about 25 minutes.*remove from oven, baste with tomato sauce lightly,
return to oven for 15 minutes* (repeat 2 more x's)remove from oven once more,
lightly baste with tomato sauce for last time, then sprinkle with remaining parmesan cheese.
Return to oven for 15 minutes to half an hour (just check to make sure they don't burn)
Turn oven off when they are done and let treats sit in oven until oven cools off.
Remove and store in air tight container. I am unsure of how long of a shelf life these have.
