LIGHT AND SHADE… We know that light creates highlights, shadows where it cannot penetrate, core shadows on round objects, key highlights, darker contact shadows where the object touches a surface and that surface reflections illuminate adjacent surfaces.
The fundamental key to successfully drawing in the third dimension is having the ability to successfully see and abstract the total information. Too much detail will only confuse the brain. If there is enough detail where it is expected the brain will fill in the rest.
