Follow these steps to baffle your students, or audience.
This can be done with 9 yr olds - adults
1. - ask them to write down a three digit number on a paper. You are not allowed to see it. the number must have NO zero's or repeating numbers
- not allowed - 400
556 605 - etc.
2. - take the number and reverse it - ex - 391 becomes 193
3. - subtract the smaller number from the larger one - 391 - 193
4. - you can give them the answer - you say 198
- How ??? - you can simply memorize the answers
below and take a few guesses - - or - -
ask them for the first number of the answer and then
guess the answer.
- - - the answer's middle digit is always 9 - - -
(unless the answer is 99) - - - and the OUTSIDE digits
add up to nine.
If they say 2 (for the first digit) you think - - 2, 9, and 7 - and answer 297. If they did their math right, you can't miss.
follow the instructions strictly, or it will not work.
Your answers can only be 99, 198, 297, 396, 495, 594,
693, or 792. This is fun when done in groups, since
several answers may match.

You already know that A = 1, B = 2 and so on. The
trouble comes when deciphering single or double digits.
For example, if you see 919 you can interpret it
as I A I, or I S. The answer is 'IS' since
IAI is not a word.
Remember that 26 is the highest possible number to use - any number
higher than that must be divided.
