About the Lincoln Wine Society

Lincoln Wine Society was founded in 1985 by Christine Austin.

Christine, who now lives near York, is an author, wine writer for the Yorkshire Post, and our Life President.

LWS meets each month in the Hardy Building at Bishop Grossteste University College Lincoln, usually on the third Thursday, in the evening.

These monthly tastings are themed — for example, a tasting might focus on a specific region or grape variety. The talks are generally a mixture of information, speaker’s anecdotes, and questions and answers. The atmosphere is relaxed and social.

No previous expertise in wine is required. Indeed, this is the perfect place to increase your knowledge!

There is an annual subscription (£10 for singles and £17.50 for couples) and the monthly meeting ticket price – typically between £10 and £20 per person – covers the cost of the wines presented, bread and cheese, and accommodation for the presenter. Full details, including ticket prices, are set out in the invitation sent to members ahead of each meeting — and on this website.
