The Song and Dance Ensemble "Beskidy" portrayed many different aspects of the Polish culture - through their dancing and singing of traditional polish folkloric songs & dances as well as their interpretation of the modern-day polish music.
Each annual concert brought to life another piece of polish culture - through poetry, prose, verse and music. There was still one integral part of polish life that the group hadn't explored - Polish Hymns.
This slight omission was rectified by the formation of the polish children's choir"Iskierki". The children (who are members of the "Beskidy" ensemble) were chosen specifically for the choir and practices began in earnest in April 2000.
The choir practices every Tuesday from 5.30pm at the "Syrena" Polish Community Centre at Rowville. At present, there are 16 girls with their ages ranging from 6 to 13.
They first sang publically at St. Mary's Dandenong for the first time in May 2000. Since their formation, they have sung at polish masses in Adelaide, Geelong, Richmond, Essendon, Rowville and regularly every 1st Sunday of the month at St. Mary's in Dandenong.
Their songs are chosen usually from songs made popular by children's choir's in Poland with "Iskierki" adding their own interpretation - with their own rhythm and style.
