Hard Drive
Before we format and install OS into the Harddisk ( HDD), we need to make a
partition for the HDD. Nowadays, standard HDD capacity for home user is 60GB and
it is big enough, we can partition the HDD into 2 or 3. Windows XP will occupied
around 2GB.
Get your Win98 or WinMe Startup disk ready. Follow the procedure below to
partition a New HDD.

Insert the startup disk into the floppy drive.

Start your computer.

After the computer start, the computer will boot through startup disk and
a message shown on the screen.

Select option 2 or
3 which
does not support CD-Rom.

At a:\ type fdisk
-
Type Y to select enable large disk
support.

From the menu, type 4 to view partition.

If there are partitions, and fullfilled your requirement, then you press
Esc twice to quit fdisk.

If do not have partition and you would like to create
few partitions. Select option 1 ( Create
Primary Dos Partition) to create your 1st partition, the computer will do some
calculation. Enter the size of the first partition. Then, Select option
2 ( Create Extended Dos Partition ) to
create 2nd partition, enter the size of the second partition. Finally, select
option 3 ( Create Logical Dos Drive(s)
In The Extended Dos Partition ) to create 3rd, 4th, 5th partition.

After create all the partitions, from then main menu,
select option 4 to view partition. From
there, it's will shown the partition occupied percentage of the space.

Press Esc key twice
to quit fdisk and restart your computer.

After restart, you can install OS.
Format Partition

Continue from above, restart the system, make sure the startup disk in the floppy drive.

The computer will boot through startup disk and
a message shown on the screen.

Select option 1 which support CD-Rom.

format d: , format e:
( depend how many drives ).
