Schumacher continues F2002 tests

Michael Schumacher continued development work on the new Ferrari F2002 at Mugello today, only a day after the team revealed that they would begin their defense of their world championship in March using last year's F2001. Schumacher concentrated on set-up and spent over five hours at the track putting in a total of 50 laps with a best time of 1:22.551.

"We have continued with development on the F2002, concentrating on set-up, so as to be ready as soon as possible with the new car," said the German. "Certainly the feeling I got from it was positive. It's the first time we have been able to work continuously with the F2002 at this circuit. In the afternoon, conditions were a bit difficult because of the wind. All in all, I am happy with the day's work."

The Swiss based Sauber team was also in attendance as they began their final test session prior to the season opener. Nick Heidfeld and Felipe Massa were both in action with Heidfeld recording the second best time after 77 laps, however the German driver was over two seconds off Schumacher's leading pace. Meanwhile Massa completed 69 laps to record a best time of 1:25.187.

Having finished testing at Mugello, Ferrari will be back in action on Monday, with Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello and Luca Badoer all present at Imola in Italy while Sauber will continue here tomorrow
