Michael Schumacher wins at Melbourne

Michael Schumacher has won his 54th Career GP when he burst into the lead after a nine car pile up on the first corner. Ralf Schumacher run up the backside of Rubens Barrichellos' Ferrari and went airborn and crashed on the first corner, several other cars were forced to retire after the mayhem spilled onto the track

QUALYFYING

Barrichello surprised us all when he got pole position by beating his team mate and reigning World Champion Michael Schumacher. McLaren Debuton Kimi Raikkonen got off to a good start with a 5th position just 1.4 seconds behind the Brazilian Ferrari driver. Other people making their debut didnt fair as well. Felepe Massa qualified the best in 9th place, Webber in 18th place and Sato was placed in 22nd and last place even though he didnt really qualify due to technical and other problems. The disappointment came with the Jaguars, the big cat was really a kitten as Irvine beat De La Rosa in 19th and 20th place respectivley with just under a quarter of a second difference.

RACE

Michael Schumacher won the 54th Grand Prix of his amazing career. Michael took the lead after the safety car went in due to firstly a 9 car pile up including 1 Toyota, 1 BAR, 1 Renault, 2 Sauber, 1 Jordan, 1 Williams BMW and 1 Ferrari. When the race continued it saw Michael take the lead even though Coulthard had grown a substancial lead and DC could probably have won the race had he not gone off the track four times during the race. Coulthard slowly made his way to retirement. The shock of the race was with Australian Mark Webber who made his debut for the Minardi team and was the first Australian driver since Alan Jones in the 1980's. He battled with the Toyota of ex-Ferrari driver Mika Salo who spun two laps before the end. Toyota's day could have been better but could have been worse, Allan McNish was involved in that 9 car pile up and never got past the first corner which was a shame as he could have done pretty well considered he qualfied in 16th place.
