Day 1: Mahtesh

The first day was mostly inside the crater. We climbed two mountains and traveled around 10km.

The only feature our camsite had were rocks, sand, and dirt. The company organizing our tour brought all the supplies. Sundown was at 6:00 (before we finished our hike), so they brought floodlights and a power generator. The food (better than Fuchsberg, obviously) was a meat stew with mashed potatoes, Israeli salad, soup, and peas. We slept in sleeping bags on thin styrofoam boards.

Day 2: Out of Machtesh Ramon

We woke up to the sound of countless flies buzzing around us at 5:30 AM. Then came shacharit (with Hallel, Hoshanot, Musaf, and everything). 1st breakfast was Cariot and Ogiah cereals with coffee and pastries. We left camp and climbed the edge of the Mahtesh. After walking along the side for a while (and seeing yesterday's hike), we followed a few Wadis and went down a few cliffs until we got to our second camp.

Before dinner, our guide took us a few kilometers outside of the camp to do relaxation exercises. Then we came back for Hamburgers and chiken skewers. The Be'er Sheva group camped a little bit away from us.

Day 3: Mount Yahav

The easiest hike of the trip was climbing mount Yahav. We had 2nd breakfast overlooking last night's campsite, and continued on to where the Jeeps would meet us to take us to the Aravah. We were the only group out of the three that would be doing this. On the way, we saw a camel herd pass by, and a McDonalds (our first glimpse of civilization in 3 days).

Luckily, no one failed the survival seminar, although there were some who didn't hike for medical reasons.
