The Adventures of an American in Israel for 9 months.

As you are probably aware, there is a super-important conference happening right now in Annapolis. A bunch of people are getting together for what will be, according to many people, one of the most important wastes of time and energy ever (except Iraq).

Everyone here has been anticipating some sort of retribution from terrorist groups, because they are so reliable for these types of things. This is what has happened so far:

We were banned from inner-city public busses until Thursday. Yossi has been providing buses for us at somewhat inconvenient times (I am NOT paying 23 skekels just to attend one class that I can easily make up). Inter-city transportation is allowed (i.e. from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv).

Yesterday, Jerusalem was put on high alert folowing intelligence that two terrorists had gotten in to Israel. As a result, we were put on lockdown, and only allowed to be at Beit Nativ, Hebrew U, Ulpan, Yeshiva, volunteering, or the supermarket across the street. The alert was lifted in the evening, but no one knows why.

See the provided picture. The media has remained strangely silent, so I suspect it isn't terrorism related.

Right now, thousands of right-wingers have taken over Kikar Tzarfat (outside our front door), and are holding a rally. Check out the "protest of the day" section under "photos" for a picture.
