2/4/08 the real Nativ has begun
We've been at Kibbutz Ein Tzurim since last Thursday. Some of us started our jobs yesterday, but the rest of us have been doing other things until they begin. We currently live in a group of 10 trailers on one end of the kibbutz. There are groups of people working with the cows, turkeys, young kids, kitchen staff, maintenance staff, and several other groups working in the fields both at Ein Tzurim, and at another Kibbutz nearby (my group). Right now, our group is working with the kibbutz maintenance group. Today, our first job was to fill a small area with a material called "Tuf" from the Golan. It looks like dark-brown rocks and is slightly lighter in weight than normal rocks. We finished in about an hour. Our next job was to clear out all the leaves from the area where the lemon trees grow. In the middle of clearing the leaves, we hear the news that there was a bombing in Dimona (about 10 minutes before Yossi texted us on our cell phones). A half hour later, when we were dumping the leaves for mulching, we hear two sharp bangs in the distance, and then a third. We're only speculating, but we believe this is what it was. The rest of the day was filled with many hours of nothing, as many afternoons will be on Kibbutz. I'm hoping to start my real job soon, however working this one has its perks. The woman in charge brings us cake and juice, and takes us on tours of the Kibbutz. I'm also becoming much more confident with my Hebrew, as the result of receiving directions in it. 2008-02-04 17:50:35 GMT
