MFI AWARDS DEPARTMENT
PURPOSE AND FUNCTION

To aid the cells/units and members of the  Maquis Forces, International in the creation of awards to recognize the achievements of its members in various fields of service and fandom. The MFI-AC sets the criteria and physical representation of all awards, and ensures that a uniform and cohesive protocol is followed regarding MFI sanctioned awards.

It should be noted that none of the following is mandated to be followed by any Cell/Unit of MFI. Nor is any Cell/Unit constituant of MFI required to submit candidates for awards, such as the Rebel of the Year Award if they do not so wish. This department strongly recommends that no Cell/Unit copies any shown ribbon or device without MFI approval, with the exception of the multiple award designators. In recognition of the sacrifices made by the serving Armed Forces and Civilian Services worldwide, MFI specifically refrains from using the devices, honors or insignias associated with those groups. We ask that our member cells and units follow our lead, and likewise refrain from using the actual insignia or awards of any Military Unit in honor of those who have "Served on our Behalf".

AUTHORITY
The Awards Department operates under the direct supervision and command of the Command Council, MFI.  All operations of the Department are subject to approval and supervision by the Executive Council.

TYPES OF AWARDS SANCTIONED BY MFI
There are four basic types of awards authorized by the MFI

  1. Medals - the MFI does not currently issue medals, but does recognize those earned by members from other International Groups (I.G.'s). Wearing of other I.G.'s medals is authorized for MFI members who have earned the right from the issuing IG. Refer to the issuing group for their order of precedence, following the MFI model below.
  2. Ribbons- In MFI ribbon awards are worn on slide-rails upon the left breast. No more than four ribbons per rail, and they are worn in the Order of Precedence shown below.
  3. Devices and Insigna- MFI has several devices and insigna to show honors or Departmental services. They are usually worn on the communicator pin, or on the collar opposite the rank insigna
  4. Certificates- MFI issues several paper certificates and/or electronic certificates wich may be physically awarded to the recipient or sent via e-mail,  or MFI makes the certificates visible and printable upon their website.

The Committee shall consist of:
The Vice Coordinator of MFI or CC Designee, who shall chair all meetings and break all tie votes.

MFI AWARDS BOARD
Purpose/Function:
To forard to the Command Council, the nominations and requests from  the constituant  cells/units of the Maquis Forces, International regarding  awards to recognize the achievements of its members in various fields of service and fandom.

Authority:
The Department operates under the direct supervision and command of the Vice Coordinator, MFI. All operations of the Department are subject to approval by the EC. The Board itself does not grant the right of awards, nor does it have the final determination, the Awards Board merely makes recomendations to the Command Council about the merits of each request, and verifies the proper protocol has been followed.

Nomination and Receipt for MFI Sanctioned Award(s):
Any MFI member may nominate a lower ranking or lower position MFI member for any MFI award, excluding the Order of the Maquis, within the following guidelines:

  1. Local Level or Cell Level Awards are nominated according to the Cell/Unit's By-laws and/or Policies, usually at the discretion of the Commanding Officer. All awards of this level should, but are not required to be reported on the Monthly Status Report.  We only ask that Cell COs verify to the best of their ability, the worthiness of their nominations and verify that the award does not  violate MFI Award guidelines as outlined herein. With the exception of some MFI designated awards, the responsibility for criteria, composition, production and presentation of all Local level awards falls with the local cell.  MFI will only supply the actual award for MFI sanctioned awards listed on this page.
  2. Zone Level Awards are awarded at the discretion of and under the supervision of the Zone/Service/Department Commanding Officer under that agency's policies. All awards of this level should, but are not required to be reported on the MSR to the Zone Commander. Zone Commanders are mandated to forward all nominations and their disposition to the Awards Board. MFI will provide information as to 'how to obtain' awards at this level to recipients, at the time of presentation.
  3. MFI  Level Award nominations are to be submitted by Cell COs to their Zone Commander, who is mandated to forward them to  the Awards Board at awards-board@maquis.com by the responsible officer, along with any supporting documentation required. The Zone Commander is also mandated to send their opinion of the nomination, which will be held in confidence by the Awards Board. The Board reviews the nominations and  forwards them to the CC with the committee's recommendations for approval or denial.  All responisbility for the final disposition lies within the CC, not the Awards Board. MFI will provide recipients with information 'how to obtain' at time of presentation.
  4. The nominating member and the nominee for awards at any level must both be members in good standing with MFI at the time of nomination. Units or members of units that are 'not reporting' to appropiate personnel or who are not performing to MFI standards are hereby disqualified.
  5. Any MFI member can make a direct nomination on another MFI member to the Awards Board at awards-board@maquis.com but the Awards Board is charged with seeking out and getting the opinion of the appropiate Zone or Service Commander and ensuring that proper protocol is observed before passing on such a nomination for disposition.
