HISTORY/EXPERIENCE: I bought the truck brand new and bone stock in 1999. I intended to take it off-highway from day one. The first accessory I added was the Warn winch. The Raven camper shell was the next accessory. Nerf bars were installed after I hit the rocker panels on rocks. I broke those off. I bought a second set and broke those too. I now have All-Pro Extreme Rock Guards. I then added a Trail Master six inch lift kit. Maintanence on the lift kit was high, everything from bolts coming loose to the front end going out of alignment. I went to Superior 4 Wheel Drive in San Jose and Troy did an excellent straight axle conversion. Fewer parts and substanial increase in off-road performance made it all worth while. The Stout rear bumper/rack was added to carry more gear and to provide a good cable mounting point for recovery. I broke the TRD rear axle on Fordyce trail at Sierra Trek 2003. It was replaced by a custom built Dana 60 built by Superior 4Wheel Drive.
I have driven off-highway at Hollister Hills SVRA, Deer Valley Trail, Mattley Loop Trail, Niagra Rim, Fordyce Trail, and numerous trails in Moab, Utah. Hollister Hills, Deer Valley, and Niagra Rim where done while the Tacoma was stock, with a 6" IFS lift, and SAS.
I have recovered several stuck vehicles, attended several Cal-4 and other club runs. I have also been a field instructor at Esprit De Four's Safety Clinic.
