TAD/HAD: April 2003

I have just heard your new album, and it was really good!

Everyone: Cool, thanks.

As a matter of fact I was a little suprised.

Isaac: It is a little bit different, more rock`n`roll.

Taylor: Yeah, at least that was the meaning when we started on this album, and that's the response we have received also.

Do you have a favorite on the album?

Isaac: No, it's impossible to have one special favorite, because every song is a favorite in different ways. We like one song for its rhythm, another one for its lyrics, and a third one because of the melody.

Can you tell about how you work?

Taylor: It's different from time to time. Sometimes one of us has started on a song, or one of us has an idea of a song and then another one comes and listens puts in things he thinks of. Or it can be we are sitting and jamming together and suddenly a cool basic rythm comes up or something like that. The new song "In The City", for example, was made from a riff we made one time when we jammed. But it is different from time to time. We are inspired of completely different things.

Zac: Our relationship between each other hasn't changed. The only thing is that we are taller and older.

~ TOPP Norway, May 2000

Do you think that being so famous as you are can be annoying?

Isaac: No, we experience people coming to us, telling us that they like our music and ask if we can sign their album and stuff, that's really good for us. That means that our music has reached out, and that's just unbelievable. We often get questions like: What's the best and the worst about being famous, and it`s almost funny because the best and the worst are often the same things.

~TOPP Norway, May 2000

Sunday, April 6, 2003

Taylor: We have met many, many people and traveled around the world, but we haven`t changed. Even if we have sold more records than we even could dream about, we can`t just go around digging ourselves. You can`t think "Oh. I`m so special".

If you could choose to be in another band, which band would that be?

Zac: Nosnah. It's Hanson backwards.

mmmSamantha asks: So what are your New Year's resolutions?

Yahoo_HANSON: Z: I've said this many times, but I'll say it again, I won't die!

Yahoo_HANSON: T: I would definitely have to agree with Zac, that's a good thing to start with. You just hope for a good year.

Yahoo_HANSON: Zac: That I won't be killed by a nuclear bomb!

Yahoo_HANSON: I: You know, I'd have to say, I'm just going to say that the record goes along very well.

Yahoo_HANSON: Z: For all you McDonald's lovers - never mind. We're not huge McDonalds fans, but it does show up everywhere, so its something you are used to, so you can't wrong.

NightFire99 asks: Do you think that you are more creative on the road or at home when writing songs? What things inspire you?

Yahoo_HANSON: T: Right now we're in the middle of writing a lot of new songs for the next album. A lot of them were inspired by the road, travelling, some when we're relaxing at home. That's why the songs are different, and that's what makes an album and a band versatile.

Jordi_35 asks: Did you encounter any problems on the Albertane tour?

Yahoo_HANSON: I: One time I missed the riser when I was going to jump, and I ripped my pants!

AwesomeMmmbop asks: I think you guys have the best senses of humor! Who are you more like? Your mother or you father?

Yahoo_HANSON: T: A little of both. Our dad was always a bit of goofball in high school, and our mom was always go with anything, and fun loving.

billyjf asks: Does anybody treat you normal anymore?

Yahoo_HANSON: T: We're not stars, so if people try to treat us that way, we have to remind them that we're not. We're normal - as far as we know!

Megan asks... If you guys weren't in a band, what would you be doing instead?

Hanson: Probably something creative, like maybe writing, or something artistic, like graphic design or freehand art, or if we weren't a band, maybe we would produce and write for other people.

Well, it's hard to say exactly where a song's inspiration comes from. Most of the time you don't know yourself. You sit down and start playing sometimes and things just come. The song "Save Me" is a love song about needing someone so much that you can't live without them and needing them to come back to you and confessing the wrongs you committed to them, and so on. And "A Song To Sing" is about a lot of things, one of them being about a person who is down and out and so depressed that they are lost in their own depression, and talking about how they need a song to sing, a friend to borrow, among other things.

Question: Hey, Hanson! Any embarrassing moments you guys would like to share with us while on tour so far? Thanks!

Hanson: Umm... well, there are plenty of embarrassing moments. Most of them, people would probably never notice. Anything from singing the wrong verse of a song to screwing up a guitar solo to starting a song on the wrong tempo. But nothing all that dramatic, that I can think of at the moment.

There is one part of their home-schooling that they don't like to talk about: Bible studies. Raised as Evangelical Christians by a protective father, Walker -- the real-life counterpart to Ned Flanders, the pious, goody-two-shoes neighbor on "The Simpsons" -- Hanson squirm when asked, "Do you pray every day?"

We're writing so many new songs that it's highly unlikely that they'll be on the new album -- BUT you never know. You can always here them at the concerts.

~Hanson chat, March 2001

Happy Easter, all!

Monday, April 21, 2003

Well, there are a lot of things in the works that we've been talking about. Unfortunately, we can't talk about any of them right now. We are working on a new long-form video documenting the tour, and we're also in the process of talking about a new video and single. That's all I can talk to you about right now! But I'm sure there will be more later.

Question: I know that many artists have difficulty writing certain songs, whether it be the meaning behind the song or not getting it out the way they visualize. I was just wondering if there were any songs in particular that were hard to write.

Hanson: Well, songs are unpredictable. You never know when they're going to come. So, in that sense, they are hard to write. But oftentimes when you get inspired, the ideas flow very quickly. The hard part is going back to songs that you've already started and trying to finish them, if they're missing a verse or a bridge. It's hard to finish them off.

My love must be a kind of blind love. I can't see anyone but you.

Are the stars out tonight? I don't know if it's cloudy or bright. I only have eyes for you, dear.

The moon may be high, But I can't see a thing in the sky. 'Cause I only have eyes for you.

I don't know if we're in a garden Or on a crowded avenue.

You are here, so am I. Maybe millions of people go by. But they all disappear from view. And I only have eyes for you.

~I Only Have Eyes For You, The Flamingos

Question: If you guys were stranded on a desert island, like 'Survivor,' what three things could you not live without?

Hanson: My guitar, probably a journal/poetry book, and probably a knife.

For decades there have been groups with no talent. So I guess it's your job to decide who are the talented ones. We're leaving it up to you to decide which one we fall into.

~Hanson chat, March 2001

Saturday, April 26, 2003

Question: Where do you think you will be in your career in 10 years?

Hanson: Hopefully touring and playing for a lot of people and continuing to make records for all of you! And hopefully doing other things in addition to that-- maybe producing other people's albums, movie soundtracks, or being involved in movie scripts.

Wakeup It doesnt matter, You've got all that you need, It doesnt matter, You've got everything, you see, It doesnt matter, You've got anything you please, But you dont have me. It doesnt matter, You've got all that you need, It doesnt matter, You've got everything, you see, It doesnt matter, You've got anything you please, But you dont have me.

Why, Do you close your eyes so tight, When you're kissing him goodnight, Maybe you're afraid, Or just trying to fill the space.

Wake up, Tell me it's alright, Wake up, I just wanna hold you tight, Wake up, Tell me its alright, Dont you ever wonder what you're looking for. Wake up, Tell me it's alright, Wake up, I just wanna hold you tight, Wake up, Wake up, Dont you ever wonder what you're looking for, Dont you ever wonder who you're looking for, Cause you dont have me.. Cause you dont have me.

It doesnt matter, You've got all that you need, It doesnt matter, You've got everything, you see, It doesnt matter, You've got anything you please, But you dont have me.

Will it matter when you're all grown, Will it matter when you're all alone, Will it matter when you stop and smell the rain, And you dont have me.

Why, Do you close your eyes so tight, When you're kissing him goodnight, Maybe you're afraid, Or just trying to fill the space.

Wake up, Tell me it's alright, Wake up, I just wanna hold you tight, Wake up, Tell me its alright, Dont you ever wonder what you're looking for, Wake up, Tell me its alright, Wake up, Cause I just wanna hold you tight, Wake up, Wake up, Dont you ever wonder what you're looking for, Dont you ever wonder who you're looking for, Cause you dont have me, Cause you dont have me, No you dont have me.

There's not much separation between regular life and musical life. In most cases, they are one in the same. However, that is what can make it hard, because there's always something to do. And the way that you balance it is you just take it one day at a time and try not to lose your mind.

~Hanson Chat 2000

Tuesday, April 29, 2003

Question: Did you guys ever take music lessons?

Hanson: Yes. Isaac and Taylor took piano lessons for seven years, Zac took piano for three or four years, and Zac and Isaac took drum and guitar lessons for six months.

Here comes my guy walking down the street Look how he walks with a dancing beat Thick wavy hair, a little too long All day long he's singing his song And when I see him in the street My heart takes a leap and skips a beat Gonna walk right up to him Give him a great big kiss Tell him that I love him Tell him that I care Tell him that I'll always be there

(Spoken) Well what color are his eyes? I don't know he's always wearing shades Is he tall? Well, I've got to look up Yeah? Well I hear he's bad MM, he's good, bad, but he's not evil

Tell me more, tell me more Big bulky sweaters to match his eyes Dirty fingernails Oh boy what a prize Tight tapered pants, high button shoes He's always looking like he's got the blues And when I see him in the street My heart takes a leap and skips a beat Gonna walk right up to him Give him a great big kiss Tell him that I love him Tell him that I care Tell him that I'll always be there
