Taylor: You can't take it personally or let it go to your head. It's just because we're in the public eye. When you're onstage, it creates excitement and girls start screaming.
~Jump Magazine, June/July 2000
So you don't stare into the mirror and tell yourselves how cool you are?
Isaac: No, no, no! We look in the mirror and think, Wow, what are they thinking? Honestly, the day that I say "Wow, I'm cool," I hope somebody slaps me.
Taylor: Oh, we will!
~Jump Magazine, June/July 2000
What are some of the best compliments you've received from fans?
Taylor: It's inspiring when we get letters from people saying, "You've changed our lives." Or "I was gonna commit suicide and now I'm not because of one of your songs."
Isaac: Those are cool! But even the littlest compliments, like somebody walking up and saying "I just wanted to say I really like your music and I think you guys are cool," encourages us to keep doing it -- not only because we love doing it, but because people identify with our music and actually get something out of it.
~Jump Magazine, June/July 2000
Isaac: It's very cool to have people who are into the band and what we do, but it all comes down to the music. They might not necessarily be into us as people, except for the fact that we're musicians.
~Jump Magazine, June/July 2000
Taylor: Looks may be the initial reason you're attracted to someone, but after that, it becomes more about the kind of person she is.
~Jump Magazine, June/July 2000
Zac: Oh yeah, women love me! [Laughs]
~Jump Magazine, June/July 2000
As for the subject matter, Taylor says, "There's this perception of what an upbeat song it is, but lyrically it's about making sure to hold on to things that matter and how short life is. The opening verse is, 'You have so many relationships in this life/ Only one or two will last/ You go through all this pain and strife/ Then you turn your back and they're gone so fast.'"
~Rolling Stone, December 7, 2000
"We were young, so that [teen idol] card was pulled out." says Taylor of Hanson's breakthrough era. "People thought, 'How could they possibly have a future? They're too young.' But as musicians, we've always aimed to be a band with longevity."
~Teen People Magazine, May 2000
