TAD/HAD: October 2003

Taylor acting silly, throwing donuts and grapes in the studio.

Zac acting like a 70 year old (no wonder this brothers call him "Father") and putting Kathy Griffin straight.

She wanted to embarrass them with innuendos and Zac asked her right in front of the camera: "Did you tell us that or you just invented it now?" To what she didn't have a return. Serves her right! Go Zac!

Answer for September 30th: Motel California with Bill Bellamy

Thursday, October 2

It was an awesome performance of "Merry Christmas, Baby" with a Gospel choir. The Clintons came over and shook hands with the band.

I was all shocked that Hillary Clinton was a lot more cordial than Chelsea. The rumour had it that Chelsea was embarrassed.

Answer for October 1: Fox After Breakfast

Friday, October 3

MTV show where they got to meet Cindy Crawford.

Ike was totally impressed and flirted with her.

Taylor looked embarrassed.

Zac was. Zac. At one point he gave Cindy a punch in the shoulder: "Are you saying that we are looking like chicks? HUH??"

We learned that Hanson are "not a hat crowd" (yeah right) and that they love to wear "Dickeys, army pants, and military stuff"

Answer for October 2: Christmas In Washington

Saturday, October 4

This appearance was part of the American Open Tennis Championship activities in Flushing Meadows, NY.

All of a sudden, we all got very interested in tennis. Hanson performed a few songs.

Shock waves spread through the Hanson fan community: Taylor trimmed his hair. Not only that - he also layered it. GASP!

Poor Zac played sick and you couldn't help and not feel for him. He wasn't even 12 yet.

Answer for October 3: MTV House of Style

Sunday, October 5

This show was ODD to say the least.

There were odd characters, young and old, dancing odd dances to the acoustic rendition of MMMBop.

Even Hanson contributed to the overall oddness of the show by messing up the song and Zac burping on the show. Taylor did his little "Staying Aive" dance.

Very, very odd.

Answer for October 4: Arthur Ashe Kids Day

Monday, October 6

Katie Couric said that she felt like Dick Clark and again a fabulous rendition of MMMBop.

I read somewhere that the guys had to get up at some ungodly hour so they can get their voices ready for a 7 am performance.

Answer: Today Show

Answer for October 5: Oddville

And that concludes our trip down the Hanson TV memory lane. We hope you enjoyed it. :)

Tuesday, October 7th

When you're working in the studio you want to be on stage and when you're on the stage you want to be in the studio.

But right now, I think this it exactly where we want to be. Playing those songs and seeing these fans is like nothing else.

Wednesday, October 8th

We left our record label just because we felt that there wasn't the same excitement about the new record as we had for it. And that there were other people out there that would be excited and are excited that we are working with now.

We have formed our own record label. And [the new CD] will be put out on the record label we have called 3CG Records.

~Zac Whatever Show, KARE 11, Minnesota October 4th, 2003

Thursday, October 9th

We did an Acoustic EP for this tour. In any other situation we would have really never had the opportunity to do that. Not only the way that we did it but it just wouldn't have made sense.

You would have had to argue with people,"This is why we have to do this!"

But now because of us taking on ourselves to release things, we're able to release this acoustic record, we were able to be that much closer to the audience. And give them music that they have been asking for a very long time.

Wishing you all a rockin' good time at the Buffalo, NY show tonight!

They've also each developed their own stage demeanor: Isaac, the sober, serious older brother; laid back, athletic Zac sounding in his solo moments like another drummer from a singing family, Dennis Wilson, and the flirty Taylor, whose androgynous good looks and yearning grainy high tenor make him the focus of the crowd's ardor. More than just a pretty face, he has the vocal chops to pull off a more than credible cover of Lieber and Stoller's "Loving You."

Mature without being too staid, Hanson may have found away out of the teen ghetto by remaining true to its own tastes. It's a lesson the current teen popsters might want to heed.

"It's music for people to get into their hands and absorb until the new record comes out," says Zac Hanson. "We got about 150 fans and brought them in a studio and recorded what was essentially a live record."

~Jackson Citizen, September 2,2003

Sunday, October 19, 2003

"This is really for the hard-core fans who have been around. This is us saying, 'Thank you guys, here's something we've never done.' They're super-intimate venues; some are 500 seats, some are smaller. It's a different way to introduce this new record," says Zac Hanson.

~Jackson Citizen, September 2, 2003

Their second album, 2000's "This Time Around," flopped.

"Did that make us feel big doubt or inner turmoil?" asks lead singer, pianist and guitarist Taylor from the back of the band's blue tour bus. The group is about to play its show in Philadelphia. Beside him, percussionist Zac and guitarist Isaac vehemently shake their heads.

"No. Absolutely not," he says. "But when you make music you always want to make an impact. So when you don't reach as many people, of course you're disappointed."

A foggy day in London town Had me low Had me down I viewed the morning with much alarm The British Museum had lost it's charm.

How long I wonder Could this thing last But the age of miracles It hadn't passed For suddenly I saw you standing there And in foggy London town The sun was shining everywhere

~Tony Bennet, A Foggy Day In London Town

To all the fans that will be seeing Hanson in concert tonight in London, have a wonderful time! :c)

"You guys are amazing," Taylor said to the crowd with sweet sincerity before the group launched into the last song of the regular set, "This Time Around," whose line "And we won't go down!" was belted out with particular emphasis by the group.

After returning to play "If Only" ("This next one, thanks to you guys, had to be retired from MTV," Isaac noted beforehand), the brothers took a moment for a team huddle.

"I think you guys will get a kick out of this one," Isaac said with a smile as they returned to their positions. It took a few seconds to realize, what with the pretty harmonizing and acoustic strumming, that what Hanson were playing was Christina Aguilera's "Dirrty." Once the fans figured it out, they whooped and laughed and cheered.

"There are good and bad effects when you're that successful with something. It's like an actor in a huge movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger might want to diversify, but everybody thinks of him as the Terminator."

Zac, ~Denver Post, August 22, 2003

Well Zac, he diversified alright! ;c)

Hang there, my verse, in witness of my love And thou, thrice-crowned queen of night, survey With thy chaste eye, from thy pale sphere above, Thy huntress' name, that my full life doth sway.

O Rosalind! these trees shall be my books, And in their barks my thoughts I'll character, That every eye, which in this forest looks, Shall see thy virtue witness'd everywhere.

Run, run, Orlando: carve on every tree The fair, the chaste, and unexpressive she.

Orlando, ~As You Like It, William Shakespeare

Tuesday, October 28, 2003

"This is something we've wanted to do for a long time. This is the way we write our music, just a guitar and a piano. Simple. It's getting back to the core of the band, and it's going to be tons of fun."

Zac, ~Denver Post, August 22, 2003

Wednesday, October 29, 2003

Everybody is just a stranger But that's the danger In going my own way I guess it's a price I have to pay Still, "Everything happens for a reason" Is no reason Not to ask yourself If you are living it right Are you living it right? Are you living it right?

Why, why Georgia?

~John Mayer, Why, Georgia

To everybody attending the Atlanta show tonight - have the best time you can!

Thursday, October 30, 2003

"People will be saying, 'Oh, the independent release. Hanson was dropped,' But really, it was just time for a new phase to kick in. We reached a point where we really needed to go for it ourselves."

Taylor, ~New York Daily News, August 13, 2003

Friday, October 31, 2003

"When we came out, it just so happened that the timing was really ripe for a change, people were listening to grunge and had gotten a little tired of it. They were ready to hear something new. Out of luck, we filled that gap."

Zac, ~Denver Post, August 22, 2003 BOO!!!
