In expressing our shock and grief, many members of Terrorism Sound Off are moved to share poetry and verse. Some of the these offerings are original works, some works of historical significance, some prayers. We share these words with you in this special presentation.

Pearl Harbor 2001

I am an American
I am a Citizen of the United States of America
I will not be afraid

It’s Tuesday September the 11th
It’s the year 2001
On my kitchen table lays a package ready to mail
My application to work in an American embassy oversea is inside

My pager beeps, With disbelief I read
Planes hit the World trade center
What is going on I say to myself

I grab my remote, My television comes to life
America has been attached
I sit stunned as events unfold
On my kitchen table lays a package ready to mail

I think to myself
Do I mail that package on my kitchen table?
Do I still want to work in an American’s embassy oversea?

Am I going to be afraid of other faceless cowards?
I say to myself, No I will not be afraid
I am a citizen of the United States of America
I am going to mail that package on my kitchen table

I am a citizen of the United States of America and I am not alone
If I die in an American’s embassy oversea by other faceless cowards
My country will not let my death be in vain
I am a citizen of the United States of America
I am going to mail that package on my kitchen table

Revenge!

I am an old Warrior.
I have been a Warrior all of my adult life.
And, now that I am old and my body is failing,
as all who get past about 50 must find,
I think back to a time when I was invincible.
That time of youth, when we Warriors Battled
and Lived our lives with an intensity,
we were fueled by death all about us.

For the next few days,
the ones I really feel the most pity for, are Us.
The ones who will have to live
in a nation that could well change
from what is the best of all lands,
to who knows what.
The Young will be affected most,
and know it least,
as they will not have as much to Compare.

I pity those who lived through the collapse,
and are now trapped in the wreckage.
Except for a few hundred, near the top of the mess,
and some who are in some sort of hole
in the twisted steel, and concrete,
the rest will die a slow painful death
over the next week or so.
There is no way to get to them in time.

To those who think they hurt us today...

you Did, you drew Blood.
To those who think we are not human...
we are, we Bleed Red.
To those who think you can make us yield...,
we will Drown you in Blood.
To those who think we will run scared...
we will run Blood mad!
To those who think we won't find you...
Our Blood will find Yours!
To those who see our only color that will ever run,
OUR BLOOD, which shall sanctify our Revenge!

In The Face Of Liberty

They use ourselves to kill us
In the face of liberty
Our planes our home and people damaged
In the face of liberty
Paralyze of the one who tires to make the world as one
In the face of liberty

Let us for now drop our flag to half-staff
But let us not permit them to laugh
In the face of liberty

Our hopes and Ol'Glory continue to fly
Even as the terror falls from the sky
In the face of liberty

We shall save our anger for another day
For first we must dry the tears today
On the face of liberty

Victims we will no longer be
In the face of liberty
The world will rise as one to expose your cowardice
In the face of liberty
And once again return the smile
On the face of liberty

Prayer

GOD, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
and the Wisdom to know the difference.

Living ONE DAY AT A TIME;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.

Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it.

Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;

That I may be reasonably happy in this life,
and supremely happy with Him forever in the next.

Amen

LINCOLN'S PRAYER PROCLAMATION

On March 30, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued an historic Proclamation Appointing a National Day of Prayer & Fasting:

Whereas, the Senate of the United States, devoutly recognizing the supreme authority and just government of the Almighty God in all the affairs of men and of nations has by a resolution requested the president to designate and set apart a day for national prayer and humiliation.

And whereas, it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God: to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon: and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord:

And insomuch as we know that by His divine law nations, like individuals, are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world, may we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war which now desolates the land may be but a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins, to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole people? We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown; but we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious land, which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God who made us:

It behooves us then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.

All this being done in sincerity and truth, let us then rest humbly in the hope authorized by the divine teachings, that the united cry of the nation will be heard on high, and answered with blessings no less than the pardon of our national sins, and the restoration of our now divided and suffering country to its former happy condition of unity and peace.

Chain Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
We are moved by the alarming news
and crisis that our country is facing.
This is the greatest nation, founded in
the belief that "In God We Trust,"
the Land of the Free
Please have mercy on those suffering, hurting, and in fear,
and give wisdom, strength to those who are assisting.
May the forces of evil be broken by your power,
and may we be humble before thee, our strength and refuge.

Give wisdom to our President, our leaders
and bring your comforting peace
through the power of your Holy Spirit.
Help us reach out to those that have been affected by this tragedy.

In the name of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.
AMEN

HOW DO YOU LIVE YOUR DASH?

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning to the end.

He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years. (1934 - 1998)

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth...
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own;
The cars...the house...the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard...
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile...
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy's being read
With your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

THE DAY THE WORLD CRIED

Life gone in an instant
With blasts of hate from air
Caught within a moment
This deed done brings despair

Contemplate this evil
What good has this deed done
Left us filled with hatred
This battle never won

Torn with mass destruction
Deliberate hate designed
For only in one instant
Deep sorrow for mankind

Families filled with horror
Hearts are filled with tears
Within us saddest moment
What purpose brings us here

Let us join united
To say a silent prayer
For those who were the victims
Their voices we must hear

People joining hands now
Creating biggest chain
Bringing forth a miracle
Where evil brought such pain

Innocent are dead now
What power does this give
Lost within the horror
But yet we all must live

Fear cannot bring power
For deep inside hate looms
The power of the people
In silent prayer resumes

Hands that reached so bravely
To help those find a way
With hearts of grateful nation
We bow our heads and pray

For all those who are lost now
On this most dreaded day
We pray that God will give us
The strength to find a way.

FREEDOM'S SONG

Standing tall and mighty
Visible from all around
Then in a flash, the towers crumble
Falling to the ground

Evil invades like a thief in the night
Strike and hide is it's plan
Wait for all to calm down
Then strike like a thief again

The price of freedom is vigilance
So keep a wary eye
Watch for the evil to come once more
It wants our freedom to die

Build the towers up again
Make them twice as strong
Show the evil it cannot win
It won't stifle FREEDOM'S song
