Charmaine Eva Atkins Brown has provided the following family history.

Iris Allison Hope Ford was born 17th March 1917 in Melbourne and died 2nd June 1993 in Mentone. She met Private Russell Clarence Atkins at a military services dance she ran through her church and they married 17 days later on the 27th August 1941. That afternoon after the wedding breakfast, Iris along with her mother Alice and family waved Russell off on the train to Sydney in preparation for him sailing on the Queen Mary to the Middle East and War.

While Russell was away to become one of the famous Rats of Tabrook, Iris worked in a factory making mosquito nets for the troops overseas.

Russell Clarence Atkins was a farmer born 2nd July 1917 in a country town called Doctors Flat and died 21st November 1997 at Mulgrave.

After Russell was discharged from the Army with health and hearing disabilities in 1943, he and Iris built a house in a southern suburb of Melbourne where they lived until Iris passed away in 1993. She became a stay at home mum and he went off to university to become an accountant.
