Gizlah finds himself on a strange planet called Rayllom, where humans bond with dragons for life. Not all dragons bond however, and some are abandoned by their bonds. One such dragon, a brown-and-blue pinto, has caught Gizz' eye. Gizlah is drawn to Paion for many reasons. He is a playful Ryslen-type (high-crested) dragon hatched as a result of a mating frenzy. Not that Gizz understands what a Ryslen, or a frenzy, might be! Paion is smaller by far than many of the dragons at Sanrix Azon, which makes it easier for him to see the tiny little red fox as he runs around his legs. Perhaps that is all that really matters. After all, tired and scared, all Gizlah really needs is a good friend in a world of strangers.

The question is, does Paion feel the same way about Gizlah?
