Sora, will you marry me?TaioraStow it Taichi, this is supposed to be a fluff-free zone.

Okay, ignore the title and Tai 'n' Sora's comments.  I do like Taiora.  I just can't stand fluff.

Taiora has always been one of the most popular (straight) digimon couples.  One of the first things that many people look at in a new show is who they're going to pair off.  And even when Taichi was introducing the characters in that very first episode, Taiora seemed imminent.
"That's Sora.  She's okay - for a girl."
Of course, that doesn't exactly sound like true love, but for a 12-year-old boy it's high praise.
And so, Taiora was born.

As the series went on there were more and more Taiora hints popping up.  In 'Garurumon' it was Sora that Tai went to for advice.  In 'the coming of SkullGreaymon' Sora sticks up for the goggle-boy when everyone else is getting fed up with his attitude.  She even talks about when they were at soccer camp together, proving to us that she knew Taichi before the Digiworld experience.  As well as showing that they both play soccer.

And then there  was The Episode.

The Taiora Episode.

The prisoner of the pyramid.

It began when it was noted that Sora's crest was the only one left to find.  To get it they had to find a way into an upside-down pyramid - a dangerous task as the area was under the control of Etemon.  And the night before they leave, Taichi finds Sora worrying about putting the others in danger and they have a 'talk'.

But it got better.

Due to Taichi's goofing off and later to Taichi's wimping out, Sora is captured by the nasty Datamon and the rest of the crew are forced to evacuate.  And to finish the episode off, we have a nice shot of Tai crying and banging his fist on the ground yelling something to the effect of:

"Sora! Noooooooooo!  It's all my fault."

That's about as much evidence as we need.  You all know what happens next.  Tai saves Sora, yadda yadda yadda.  Big shebang and the Taiorans win one over the Taitoists.  From then on small hints of Taiora pop up periodically, but that was the big one (we all know now that Taiora never became official, but I won't go into that here).

And my opinion?  Well, I'm not the sort of person who just likes couples because they're 'cute', but I will admit that Taichi and Sora look good together.  They also seem to share a lot of the same interests and they're already great friends.  It wouldn't take much for them to go a little further.  Besides that, they both seem to have 'feelings' for each other, even if it's only subconscious.  In 02 we find that Tai definitely has some sort of feelings for Sora, although it didn't work out (interesting fact: Toei originally planned to end the series with Taiora, not Sorato).

I've liked Taiora for a long time, and I must admit that I was a little disappointed when it never became official.  But it's one of the biggest couples and I see no reason why people should give up on it just because of the epilogue.  After all, there were 25 years in between that are left entirely to our imaginations.
^_~  So even if you were disappointed, there's no reason you should stop writing/drawing/supporting Taiora.  Plenty of people still love their Taiora, so keep it up!
