Tai Luva's Digimon Fanfiction

Promise

See? I told you I'd write another actual story! And for those who are wondering, I'll try to work on ‘Reunion' and ‘If I Let You Go' soon, but I'm stumped as to what to write for them next. If anybody has any ideas, send ‘em my way at cherryblossom19@hotmail.com. This is a friendship ficcy that includes all the Digidestined and takes place about three years after Season Two.

Disclaimer: is this, like, necessary anymore? The only way I'd ever own Digimon is if I was part of all the companies that do own it, which I'm not and probably won't ever be part of. I also don't own the song ‘Lean on Me' which has been performed by so many artists over time, that I don't know who the original person who wrote this is. This is not a song fic!

Dedication: To ******* Insert your name there. That way I won't leave anybody out. ^_^ But, I want to make a special dedication to all my friends here on FF.net: DigitalAnimeFox, jus1digigirl, Yuki, Tai Luva, Bumblebee, Theo ‘Blitz' Leung, Fire Faerie, Li Sakura, and Kellie Takaishi. Sorry if I've missed anybody who falls under this category!

Enough babble from me, on with the show! (Or in this case, on with the story!)

The time for summer camp had come again, and this time all the Digidestined had managed to get into the same camp for one last time. This would be the last summer for a long time that they'd all be in the same place.

Joe was ready to enter med school, after taking a year to decide it. Tai, Sora, and Matt were graduating from high school and were going to separate universities (that is, once Matt decided which one he was going to). Mimi, who had always come back to Japan for summers was going on a worldwide trip with her parents, who were determined to ‘show their precious princess the world'. Izzy, Yolei, TK, Kari, Ken, Davis and Cody were remaining in Odiaba (for school, obviously), but things change.

The last night at camp, all the Digidestined gathered around the campfire for one last time together. Tai, Davis and Matt managed to sneak out an extra bag of marshmallows from the mess hall so the Digidestined could have their own private marshmallow roast. Everybody was gathered around the fire, and for awhile nobody spoke, because everybody was too obsessed with eating marshmallows.

Yolei spoke first. "I guess this is it you guys. Tomorrow we'll all be heading our separate ways, never knowing if we'll meet again" she said in a sad tone.

"Geez, Yolei. You make it seem so dramatic and all. It's really that not a big of a deal" said Matt, stuffing yet another marshmallow into his mouth.

Yolei puffed up with rage. "NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL???" she shouted. "HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT? WE MAY NEVER SEE EACH OTHER AS LONG AS WE LIVE AND ALL YOU CAN SAY IT'S NO BIG DEAL?" Everybody sweat dropped. Heads were starting to turn their way.

"Calm down girl" replied Kari. "I'm sure Matt never intended it to be like he seriously, honestly, doesn't care if we meet again, right Matt?" she said, glaring at Matt with a you-had-better-agree-with-me face.

"Ahh... sure. That's what I meant" responded Matt. He knew better than to get Yolei really worked up. "Anyways, I'm positive we'll see each other again. I mean, I can't live my live without seeing my little brother, can I?" he said, smiling at TK

"Hey! I'm not ‘little' anymore! I'm fifteen now. Besides, I'm taller than you now! You're the little one" answered TK.

Matt laughed. "You got me on that one"

"Well, hopefully I'll never have that problem; my younger sibling being taller than me, that is . You had better not grow taller than me, Kari!" said Tai, punching Kari in the arm

"Ow Tai! That hurt! And as for me growing taller than you, I don't see that happening in the near future. I'm as short as anything!" exclaimed Kari, rubbing her arm.

"Guys, calm down! People are starting to stare at us again!" said Ken.

Tai and Kari did calm down, and the gathering hit a quiet spot.

"So.. What exactly are we gonna do at this campfire thing? Evry other one I've been to has been all planned out" said Cody, breaking the silence.

"I don't know, sing songs, talk, whatever. There's no set plan for this" replied Tai. "Maybe we could sing, because Davis, Matt and I managed to swipe some songbooks out of the rec hall" He grinned, holding several up.

"Sounds like a good idea to me" said Sora. Everybody else nodded in agreement.

Tai passed around the song books, but they all had to be shared because Tai only swiped six. Everybody pored through them, looking for possible songs. Every time one came up, however, it had to be forgotten of, because not everybody wanted to sing it. Finally Izzy found a song that everybody agreed on.

"Ok! We'll start on the count of 3!" said Matt. "1..2..3..."

"Sometimes in our lives,
we all have pain, we all have sorrow.
But if we are wise, we know that there's always tomorrow.

Lean on me, when you're not strong
and I'll be your friend. I'll help you carry on,
for it won't be long
'til I'm gonna need
somebody to lean on.

Please, swallow your pride,
if have things you need to borrow.
for no one can fill those needs that you won't let show.
You just call on me brother when you need a hand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem, that you'll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.

Lean on me, when you're not strong
and I'll be your friend. I'll help you carry on,
for it won't be long
'til I'm gonna need
somebody to lean on.

You just call on me brother if you need a friend.
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
If there is a load you have to bear that you can't carry.
I'm right up the road, I'll share your load if you just call me."

After the last line was sung, all the Digidestined just stared at each other for awhile. The campfire began to dwindle, until it was only a tiny, tiny flame Then TK began to speak .from the shadows.

"Let's make a promise right here, right now. We must all promise that we will all come together again someday, wether that day is in a week, month, year, or twenty years. We must all promise that if anybody ever needs a friend to help them through something, we will all be there for them; no matter how scattered we are across the globe. We are all friends forever and nothing in this world is ever gonna change that. Whoever agrees, place their hand on top of mine."

Twelve heads turned to TK. That was pretty deep stuff coming from a fifteen-year-old. Nobody knew what to do at first, as they were still taking in his words. Kari was the first one to say something.

"I think TK is right. Friends are forever. We are friends forever. Like TK says, nothing on the face of this earth will change that. Here's hoping to the good years we have in front of us and to the hope of a reunion" she said, placing her hand on top of TK's.

Kari's action was soon followed by Tai, Matt, Sora, Yolei, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, Ken, Cody and Davis. Davis was last because he was continuing to stuff marshmallows into his mouth and didn't notice what the others were doing until Mimi elbowed him in the side.

"So, everyone promises?" asked TK, looking around at everyone.

"We promise" said eleven voices in unison.
