Very important rule. The biggest vehicle has the right of way
from smallest to largest:person on foot
bike
scooter
car
truck
bus
gravel truck
motorcycle carrying five filled propane tanks (large) driven by a guy wearing
flip flops and is smoking -- that's the biggest.
Comment: You only get a ticket for not wearing your helmet if that's what they were told to check that day. Sometimes they are out there for going the wrong way down a one way road or right turn on red. You only get stopped for breaking the rule of the day. Of course you don't know what rule that is until you break it!
For your rules. It's cheaper to kill someone. There were cases usually with gravel trucks. Once one hit a pregnant lady. She was just injured. He knew he'd have to pay the bills so he back over her. That way he just had one payment for loss of life which was cheaper than the medical bills would have been. Terrible but true.
What's behind you is no concern of you -- know that rule and it works here to.
To cross the street -- just hold out your hand as to say stop and don't look Cars will stop
