29 December 2003 to 2 January 2004 The next young adult European Meeting animated by the Taizé Community will take place in Hamburg, in the North of Germany, at the end of this year, from 29 December to 2 January. The news was published as thousands of young adults came and went in Taizé throughout the Easter vacations. Following after the meeting in Paris, the Hamburg gathering will be a new stage in the "pilgrimage of trust on earth" that the Community has been following for over twenty-five years. A joint invitation was addressed by the Catholic and Protestant Churches of Hamburg to the Community to prepare this meeting in their city. On 15 April, the leaders of the two Churches, together with the mayor of Hamburg, expressed their eagerness to welcome the meeting. "We are very happy to welcome this great meeting in our city. Beyond all the differences, the young people will come together here to celebrate the faith that unites us, them and us. They are preoccupied by urgent questions about a more compassionate future. And in their daily lives they strive to make steps towards justice and peace. The European meeting is a sign of hope and encouragement in a world that is torn apart. And we are happy, right from today, to invite all the people of Hamburg to offer a warm welcome to the young people." The first European meeting was held in Paris in 1978.
