Forget-Me-Not's
Ooo, that pesky Lost & Found Box. According to Crystal of Housekeeping, the Box is filled with raincoats. Well, we might not need them today, but you never. Please make it a point to check the box soon! -§-  Are you writing lots of letters? Be sure and check with your counselor if you have any questions on how to address your letters. If you need tape to close up your envelopes, see your counselor. Using stamps to do that is rather wasteful! -§- If you haven't met Janette who works in the Laundry Shed, she knows a lot about you. She washes your clothes! Please remember to unball your socks. Thanks!

Farm and Mill Report

FARM REPORT - Ah, sunshine! Even some of the plants have been asking for a little fair weather. Always busy at the Farm. Thanks for everybody who helped. It was so wet yesterday the weather measurements didn't happen until after 4 p.m. Feels good to be drying out.
MILL REPORT - The campers are not the only ones who enjoy the Mill's homemade butter. Sebastian the Skunk was seen yesterday morning with a plastic cup on his nose, licking out the last bit of butter. The moral: pick up any and all food so it doesn't attract animals.

MAIL AT CAMP

THE FRONT PORCH - by Julia Selman, Age 7, Playhouse - Campers get mail about 5 times a week. Once a camper gets a letter, they send one back.

For the camper, it is fun. We write them during Rest Hour. The counselors do it, too, because we miss our families.     That's how we get and deliver the mail.

A CAMP INTERVIEW

THE ROCKWALL - by Maggie Butler, Charlotte Barr and Margaret Abernethy, all Age 11, all Rosebay - [Here is an interview conducted between some cabinmates of Cabin Rosebay - Editor]
Q: How is camp?
A: Fun, great, exciting!
Q: What is your favorite place at Gwynn Valley?
A: The Mill because it's soothing and the Lodge because it's comforting.|
Q: For camp, how was the food?
A: It's fantastic!
Q: In general, what would you rate Gwynn Valley?
A: A+/A!

FRIENDS

FRONT PORCH - by Kelsey Supple, Age 7, Playhouse - Friends are nice. I have a new friend. Her name is Julia. She is nice. We like to play together.

I like my friends in the cabin. They are nice, too.

HOW TO KEEP FROM GETTING HOMESICK

FRONT PORCH - by Cameron Reid, Age 9, Raccoon Ridge - To keep from getting homesick, first you can think of fun things. But if this doesn't work, you can write post cards.

Also try talking to someone like your counselor or a good friend.

HOW TO GET MAIL TO DUKE THE MOUSE

THE FRONT PORCH - by Rachel Keane, Age 9, Shady Grove - Duke the Mouse is getting pretty lonely so we asked campers to send mail to Duke.

Oh, and make sure it is small enough to fit into his mailbox near the Hillside Door to the Dining Room.

SUNDAY SERVICE

THE FRONT PORCH - If you or your cabin would like to be a part of Sunday Service, but sure and tell your counselor. We still have a few days before Sunday, but the time will be gone quickly.

There is a sign up sheet on the Front Porch. You will find the theme there as well. Thanks.

Can you say this tongue twister?
The Tajar takes time to have tea together with the trees.

Poetry

The Mill

by Jack Duffy, Age 9, Raccoon Ridge
The Mill is like a hill,
   always trying to spill.
It likes to move to with all its might,
but it only works in the light.

Its strong power
  could rage down a tower.
And its strength?
wow, did you see its length?

And unfortunately it's night
so it's time to turn out the light.
But it will work tomorrow,
and I know we all have sorrow.
Goodnight.

Breakfast At Table 28

by the personnel of Table 28

We're having breakfast
   at Table 28,
Just like usual—
   it's always great!

There are eggs and biscuits,
   apple sauce, too.
We've got a place set,
just for you (and any who!).

Heidi serves
   and sometimes Rachel,
For all this food,
   we're really grateful.

We like our table
   by the door,
We love the biscuits,

   let's get some more!

"Of course it's all about me!"
Duke the Mouse

Duke the Mouse

The Unwelcome Guest
by RB and Duke

It all started when Sharon finally went to bed last night. She was very tired after a long day and all she would think about was getting some rest before the next day started.     What she found was something rather unsettling in her bed: my pet mouse.

Oh, in case you don't know, I have a pet mouse named Duke. He lives here at Gwynn Valley and he thinks he owns the place. Just ask Sharen.

When she found him, Duke was reading a book and nibbling on a cracker. Well, Sharen was not too pleased about that. Actually, Duke should know better than to snack in some else's bed. Hey, I'm glad its not mine, but that's another story.

Anyway, Sharen decided to put Duke to work. She decided to get him a job here at Gwynn Valley. Starting immediately, Duke would become the new night watchman. His job was to watch the camp at night since he sleeps through the day most of the time. What a perfect job for my mouse.

Only, the folks at the Health Center didn't get the word. Late at night, Nurse Melanie woke up and heard a noise. She heard the patter of little feet and then the swish of a tail. Was that the Tajar?

Without asking too many questions, she went and got Nurse Wanda and together they set up a trap. This trap was just a little plastic box with a hinged door on it. Once inside, the mouse couldn't out. All fine and dandy, except Duke the Mouse was on the clock.

Of course he got trapped! I mean how could my pet mouse resist? They put a marshmallow, a piece of lettuce and a slice of bread in there. It was cruel.

As soon as Melanie and Wanda saw something in the trap, they called Bernie. And when Bernie found Duke, my mouse was fast asleep in the trap, using the marshmallow for a pillow, the slice of bread for a mattress and the lettuce for a blanket.

As far as I know, Sharen is now  looking for another night watchman.

And that's the way it is with Duke.
