Farm and Mill Report
FARM REPORT - Sunday was the day of rest at the Farm but things are looking up today. All the animals are well rested and ready to play with you when you come down to see them. Listen for Farmer Fred's reports each morning.
MILL REPORT - Ringo the Snake is eating again. It seems that all the crickets in Gwynn Valley went into hiding when they heard Ringo was hungry. So Miller Cindy got some herself. Ah, Ringo finally has something to eat.

RESPECT THE MILL TOOLS & TOYS

THE MILL - reported by Terrence Lonam, Age 8, Chipmunk Hut - When at the Mill, please remember to respect the tools and toys. Miller Cindy has some great things to show us when we go there, but we need to be respectful and take good care of them.
If one of her old-time toys breaks, please let her know so she can fix it. And remember to only put food in the grinders. Thanks.

Poetry
The Creek
by Jack Duffy, Age 9, Raccoon Ridge

The creek
likes to speak with its own little voice.

It's quiet
   and feeling
   and no little sealing.

It works
   and does not jerk
   the mind of Mother Nature.

And its in the perfect place
   with its own little space

And it will not stop flowing;
but it likes to start showing
   the greatness of Mother Nature.

Long Hair
by Rachel Keane, Age 9, Shady Grove

Isn't it just annoying?
Fiddling with your hair?
Sometimes split ends,
   sometimes knots.

Brush, brush, brush
All day!
Man! It's a lot!

"Of course it's all about me!"
Duke the Mouse

Duke the Mouse
Golden, With A Thousand Colors
by RB and Duke

Please, someone tell me where the first week of camp has gone! Before we know it, we'll be packing up to head for home. If you find that to be a depressing thought, thank Duke.
Duke is my pet mouse. He's usually a huge pest around camp, but tonight be surprised me. No, tonight he shocked me! Duke shocked me because he wasn't getting in trouble the whole day. In fact, he was as good as gold.
After Campfire, Duke found me talking to Debbie. We hung around the Lodge for a few minutes and then Duke, Debbie and I walked out onto the Green as the sun was going down. It was so beautiful.
I think the beauty all around us got Duke to thinking about camp and about all the fun he's had here this summer. I'm not sure if there was something else going on for my pet mouse, but it sure brought up a lot of memories for me.
Debbie said she was looking forward to the musical tonight so her thoughts were not about the end of camp but the middle. I said I was thinking about the first days we arrived here and how everything was so different than home.
But it was Duke who said he was thinking about the last days. He said time is a funny thing. He said time is like a roll of toilet paper because it seems to go quicker when you're almost to the end.
And he's right. The days are just peeling off, one by one, and right now they seem like hours instead of days. Soon they will go even faster.
Ah, that Duke. Most of the time he drives me crazy but on that night, sitting on the Green with Debbie, he said some very wise things.
I plopped Duke in my shirt pocket and he was fast asleep by the time we reached our cabin. Just before I stepped through the door, I looked at the sky one last time. It was golden with a thousand colors.
And that's the way it is with Duke.
