Tala's Links Page

I've tried to get my links into some semblance of order, so I hope you can find your way through them. Attention webmasters! If you link to my page, let me know so I can return the favor ;) I love being linked to.

Belly Dance
Shira's Belly Dance Page. Shira's page is very good, and has an excellent links page. Definitely check her out.
Aziza Sa'id's Middle Eastern/Belly Dance page. This is an excellent site and always worth a look, since she updates regularly. She also has video clips and I love anyone who's got belly dancing clips on their website!
Atéa's website. The famous dancer and instructor, everyone should own at least one of her videos, and her website has some interesting things on it, including a decent links page (nothing on the scale of Shira, though.)
Belly Dance Gallery. A page full of pictures of dancers. Good costuming reference for cabaret and tribal dancers.
The Pink Gypsy. Mostly good for merchanting; they have some excellent items and often have videos on sale (every dancer should have Atea in her reference collection).
Jas's Doumbek Rhythms. A guide to the doumbek, the beloved drum of the SCA dancer. Lists many good rhythms you'll want your drummers to learn.
Belly Dance Home Page. Lots of good articles and links. Always worth a browsing.
Topkapi Designs, Turkish costumes, beautiful! They used to be more affordable, I wish now I'd bought one then! But I no longer cabaret (sigh)
Davina, great page.
Farfesha's, go read the turban-tying article!
Bhuz, belly dance info of all varieties, message boards, dancer and musician directories, etc etc!
Folk Dances. I love folk dance.
Visionary Dance Productions, interesting page, wish I had the money for the Maui retreat!
Magic City Costumes - cool stuff.
Mohammed El Bakkar. Downloadable FREE mp3s of fantastic dance music!
Bellydance in Nice French belly dancing, site available in English for those who don't speak it, has some nice video clips. Worth a look around.
Joy of Bellydancing, interesting site and they linked to me in their costuming section :)
Salome, who sent me a lovely little email asking to be linked to, and I quote, "Promo of international performer as well as belly dance directories, on-line lessons, articles, and interviews." Go have a look, sounds interesting.
Denver Fabrics, all kinds of great fabrics & trims & patterns (the Neue Mode one looks interesting).

Helpful and Informative Sites
The Society for Creative Anachronism. If you've never heard of them before, go here immediately! If you have, go anyway, there's always good stuff to be found on the SCA webpage.
The Life of Mohammed the Prophet. There is no God but God, and Mohammed is his Prophet. So read about him!
The Florilegium. Very helpful in doing research, or learning about the SCA. Stefan's site contains a wealth of information on all things of both the past and the current Middle Ages.
Cariadoc's Miscellany. Duke Cariadoc's well-researched and well-written articles include several on Islamic clothing, food and related topics.
People & Groups in the SCA. Get in touch with your local group online. Especially if there are any Pink Fuzzy Bunnies in your area, or of course, THUNDER!!!!!!! (the war home of many an itinerant dancer)
Medieval Names Archive. A good starting point on constructing accurate, period and SCA-documentable names. Includes a section on al-Islam.
Barbarians. Hey, it's cool, and to Europeans in the Middle Ages, Muslims were barbarians (wasn't everyone!).
Ottoman Traders, a Renfaire re-enactment group, not strictly SCA. Good website, very informative.
Ajeeb, which can translate your webpage from English to Arabic, and has a lot of other interesting things as well.

Bizarre & Random Links
Another of my websites which Yahoo ate!
The Surrealist Compliment Generator. Very entertaining. May bathtubs overflow your gardenias.
Peep Research. Scientists at Emory University are hard at work studying those delicious, strangely colored little chickens one finds around Easter....
Strawberry Pop-Tart Blow Torches. More twisted minds at work, this time from Texas A&M.
The Infamous Exploding Whale. What frightens me the most about this is that it's actually true, even verified by Urban Legends.com, this happened in the 1970s.
Prolefeed. A diverse collection of twisted yet funny junk. Not for the faint of heart (in other words, parental warning!). Especially check out the Ferret Dance.
Beer Trek! Yes, it is possible to be a Trekkie and a belly dancer.
