Specialization

Lengthy discussions have been parts of my life .I have always had a point that always contradicted the speakers. These contradictions have given me an outlook towards life where every thing is possible and ‘NO’ has become out of reach. These contradictions sometimes are healthy and fruitful but all of them are not and my beliefs might not be the true way of life.

In this article I wish to talk about the specialization syndrome in every field and at times we truly feel lost in the world of so many specifics. I have a series that I wish to share with all of you.

Lets get started……………

The triangle in the above diagram shows the boundaries set for all of us. These boundaries define the caliber and capabilities of people. Leading to a block that stops or restricts for exploring in to new dimensions.

Lets take an example:

‘A’ is an electronic engineer by qualification and has excellent command in his field of action. He has serves his organization for past few months and was involved in many great projects.

One day he was in his office when a short circuit occurred and due to this everything came to a standstill. Now there was a need for an electrician to repair the fault (it was a blown switch).

There no one available for a minor rectification in spite of having a qualified personnel in the organization. The case would have been different if ‘A’ would have taken an initiative and could have at least located what actually the problem was.

In the changing world the demand for specialized professional has grown, who have expertise in handling situations in a particular field of operations.

How does the process of specialization work?

0 Level (Std X)

This is a common background for almost all the students where basic subjects are taught and students are equipped with the fundamentals of Science, Commerce, Arts Mathematics etc.

On the basis of this fundamental Knowledge further classifications are made.(as per the Indian education system.

1st Level (Std XII)

Division in the focus for all the students comes in to existence in this level, where the knowledge is divided as per the interest and students are given choice to enter area of their interest .In this stage primary split of subjects happens.

2nd Level (Graduation)

this level gives out semi finished product from different fields, but these professionals are not fully equipped to handle a practical situation, and so arises the need for further polishing.

3rd Level (Post-Graduation)

This level is the polished versions of 2nd Level with in depth theoretical know how about situations in a very specific field or segment.

Lets Define using a case, we will try to understand by using a diagram using two cones.’ A’ and ‘B’.

Where ‘A’ Depicts ‘VARITY’ to ‘SPECIFIC’ and ‘B’ Depicts ’LESS’ to ‘VAST’ Knowledge.

The diagram shows that in the beginning of education various subjects are taught and there is no specific interest or attention is given to a particular field.

To be continued….
