Introduction:
In
Hindu Astrology, there are eight parameters, which are considered for matching
besides the whole horoscope matching, which includes dasas, health, wealth,
longevity, 7th house, character, children, etc. Based on the moon
sign and moon’s nakshatra (from moon’s longitude we find out the nakshatra
where the moon is) and then we apply these 8 parameters for horoscope matching.
So we need the moon sign and the moon’s nakshatra for the bride and the
bridegroom to do a compatibility analysis.
The
eight parameters are:
§
Varna
§
Vashya
§
Tara
§
Yoni
§
Gana
§
Bhakoota
§
Nadi
These 8 parameters are given 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 points weight age respectively. And a total of 18 points Or “Gunas” must be there for a proper match. Thus, in total we have 36 points or “Gunas”.
Brahmin is the highest Varna and then we have Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras respectively in the descending order.
Brahmin is often referred as the caste, which does pure Karmas say of a priest, a preacher and so on.
Kshatriyas is often referred as the caste, which fights for the cause.
Vaishyas is often referred as the caste, which does business.
Shudras is often referred as the caste, which does service.

Varna refers to say the caste of the person. The bridegroom should have higher “Varna” then the bride. For example, the bridegroom’s rasi is Cancer, which refers to “Brahmin” Varna, and the bride’s rasi is Taurus, which refers to Vaishya Varna. So we see that that bridegroom’s Varna is higher in the table and so we say that they have Varna compatibility. So they get 1 point, which is of Varna.
A ready-made table is given below for the matching.

Here, in the table the numbers refer to the Zodiac signs. For example, 1-Aries, 2-Taurus , 12- Pisces and so on.
Vashya means “Control” in Sanskrit. Here we see the Zodiac signs and find out who controls whom when two persons marry.

Leo and Scorpio are not allocated any group. If the couples belong to the same group it’s the best and they get 2 points. When the groom can control bride they get 1 point. For human signs, all rasis except Leo are controllable or “Vashya” but for JalaChara ( the watery movement signs) all are all other signs are not controllable (“Bhakshya”).

Tara
means “Star” or Nakshatra. Here we have to count the groom’s nakshatra to the
bride’s nakshatra. Then, the count is divided by 9, if the remainder is 3-5-7
then the Star is a malefic one else it’s a benefic one. We will then
give 1½ point for benefic star.
Now,
we will reverse the counting from bride to groom and then divide by 9 so as to
find if the star is a benefic or malefic. Again, for benefic we will
give 1 ½ point. In total we will get 3 points.
Some people say this is referred as sexual compatibility. In this, the Yoni’s of the groom and bride should be compatible.
The
Yoni table is shown below for various Yoni’s.

The groom’s and bride’s moon sign lords are taken into consideration while deciding the friends/neutrals/enemies of the lords.
If both the groom’s and bride’s moon sign lords are friend, 5 points are given.
If one is a friend and other is neutral then 4 points.
If both are neutral we give 3 points. For example, Jupiter and Saturn who are neutral for each other.
If one is friend and other one is enemy then 2 points.
If one is enemies and the other one neutral then 1 point.
The planetary friendship-enemity chart is given below:

Gana:
“Gana”
are of three types
§
Deva (Godly)
§
Manushya
(Humanly)
§
Rakshasa
(Demonly)
Some
refere this to the level of thought a individual has depending on the category
his nakshatra falls in.
Here
is the ready-made table for the same.
|
Ganas |

|
Rakshasa |
3-9-10-14-16-18-19-23-24 |
If
the couple has the same Gana then they get 6 points.
If
groom is “Deva” and bride is “Manushya” then they get 6 points. If vice-versa
they get 5 points.
If
groom is “Rakshasa” and bride is “Deva” then they get 1 point.

Gana-Matching Table
“Bhakoota” refers to the relative position of the moon sign of the groom and the bride.
If the relative position of the groom and the bride is 5/9, 6/8 or 2/12 they get no points else they get 7 points.
There are some cases to discuss before giving them points.
§ Same moon sign- they can have the same moon sign but different nakshatra or the different quarter of the nakshatra.
§ 2/12 position- if the bride rasi is 12 from the groom then it is malefic more when rasi lords are enemies.
§ 5/9 position- It is said that this might cause problem to progenies. More when bride is 5th from the groom’s rasi.
§ 6/12 position- It is bad and causes disease more when rasi lords are enemies.
The Bhakoota according to some looses maleficence when rasi lords are friends.
For example, Aries-Virgo, Gemini-Scorpio, Leo-Capricorn, Libra-Pisces, Saggi-Taurus, and Aquarius-Cancer. They are not good.
Also Scorpio-Aries, Cancer-Sagii, Virgo-Aquarius, Capricorn - Gemini, Libra-Taurus and Pisces –Leo.
Nadi:
There are 3 kinds of “Nadis”. These are:
§
Adi (Vatha)
§
Madhya (Pitta)
§
Antya (Shleshma)
The
couples must have different nadi’s in order to get 8 points.
