This is your lesson today.  You will plan a trip to see the Shuttle.

There will be two groups. 
Car A drives up to Cocoa, sees the shuttle, and drives back.
Car B drives up to Cocoa, see the shuttle, then drives to Orlando to visit Disney Quest for four hours.  Then they drive back to Fort Lauderdale.  (You might want to get a nap in a hotel in Orlando)

Your lesson is below.  Divide your class into groups

Your teacher has a sore throat, laryngitis and he can't speak.
Shuttle on February 7
Students 1 and 2
a) Call the car rental company and ask for a rate 
764-1008  (Florida Air and Sea)
How much for a van for 10 people
How much for two cars, 5 people in each car
What is the cost of insurance?
How much for gasoline?  (Ask Students 5 and 6)

OTHER GROUPS of students:  Check other rental companies (Thrifty, Budget, look in the yellow pages)...do NOT go to Bruno and do NOT ask him for the rates.

Students 3 and 4
a) Contact a hotel (Travelodge  1-800-348-3765) and find out a price for one night (in case some students want to sleep for 4 hours before returning.
Is there a discount for Triple A  (“eiiiii”)  or AAA
Non-smoking room.
Is there a special rate for in at 7 pm, out by 12 midnight?

b) Decide the types of drinks and snacks to bring on the trip.  Go to the Activities Department and ask to borrow the Ice Chest (it is blue, I think).  Where is it kept?

Student 5 and 6

a)  Plan the drive.
How many hours to drive to Cocoa and Cape Canaveral? 
How many miles to drive up to Cocoa and back?  (see below)

b) How much gasoline will the vehicle use?  (Give your answer to the Students 1 and 2)
400 miles Ft. Laud to Cocoa and back.                        500 miles Ft Laud to Cocoa to Orlando and back.
Van:  10 miles per gallon                                 Car: 25 miles per gallon
Gasoline =  $1.50 per gallon

c) Create a letter to send to all of the students
Use information that your other classmates gathered.  Before you fax and distribute the letter, ask your teacher and Leslie to read the letter.

You need to fax the letter to NOVA 262-3913 to gather information
1. how many people want to come to the shuttle?
2. how much is the expected cost of the trip?
3. is anyone able to drive a rented car or bring their own car?

Call Disney Quest 1-407 824-4321 and ask if there is a lower cost if the group arrives after 8 pm
Ask how long DQ will be open on the day.  (open until 1 a.m.?)
