Free Lyrics For Education
Free Use For Education

This web page is dedicated to the use of culturally significant words in schools.

If kids don't see and talk about the phrases and catchwords and lyrics that their teachers and parents know, then the generation gap will get larger.

The plea to artists and authors:
Give teachers the right to reproduce and study the lyrics of at least one of your songs and we will turn students into fans of your work.

The text of the typical letter sent to artists and authors

Dear Author/Artist,

When a teacher uses words or artwork that is created by you in a class lesson, we can "quote" from it quite easily... if we have a copy of the book or article at hand.  If we want to make COPIES of that song or page from your book, we have to ask permission from the publisher.

As a teacher,
I appeal to you:  Please release for educational use at least one of your songs or pieces of art for reproduction so that teachers who don't have the resources to pay for the "royalty" or "permission to reprint" can do so.   If I have to charge teachers for this lesson plan, it's not going to have a wide circulation.   If I mention that "this lesson plan requires that you get a copy of the book and then read the page to the class", then most teachers won't bother to get the book.

If you allow me permission to quote form your book, then your book will be in my classes and in the classes of teachers whom I teach.

Send an email and we'll send you the materials.

Thanks.

This campaign supports the work of Peter Viney who has tried to introduce non-native speakers of English to the cultural diversity of English expressed in song.

The goal is to help students learn English and grammar and vocabulary through music.

Please help.  We need to use your lyrics.
