To start fishing in Hercules&Xena you would first need a fishing pole. You can forage for a suitable stick like cypress, maple or walnut outside Athens or in the Palace Gardens. Alchemist might help you to find some or even help you carve them, since to carve you need good gadgeteering skill and the foraging skill will determine the quality of the pole.
Rogues are also expert carvers, depending on their skill level.

To carve you would need a good knife in one hand and the foraged stick in the other and type: CARVE MY STICK WITH MY KNIFE. If the skill of the carver is high enough you end up with a fishing pole, if not the stick will break and you have to try again.

The best sticks for poles are  bamboo's, which are found in the Oasis near Alexandria. They are also the hardest to carve and only a few people will have the skill to do so.

You will need some bait for which you can forage also, a  fishing line and a hook. The equipment can be purchased in  a tackle shop in Eleusis and Midgard. Bait includes frogs, worms, crickets, locusts and mayflies and I found that they are always easily foragable around the fishing spots.

The equipment

Line and hooks come in light, medium and heavy.
Light is for small fish in the shallows,
medium for shallows and middle,
and finally heavy for fish in the middle and deep.

Stringers or creels

You will need a stringer to carry your fish around or a creel.
Stringers can be worn from the belt and creels over your shoulder. Creels are more expensive, but they will keep your fish fresh , while stringers have to be dropped in the water and can easily forgotten when you leave the area.

Boxes will only hold some of your bait  and tackle, but  give a realistic feel.

Fishing spots

The safest might be around the Flora Avenue in Athens.
There are several more , best to ask for fishing buddies at the Gate who might show you some . Outside of Athens fishing spots are in the area between Piraeus and Eleusis, but you should be aware that there are cutthroats and robbers around which might have to be fought off.
There is a nice pond outside the southeast gate in the orchard and a great lake in Midgard in the troll and dire wolf area.

here are your fish !

When you have prepared yourself and found a suitable spot type FISH and you will get some help with the usage of the verbs for fishing.

Depending on your skills/level you might want to try the easiest way first which would be in the shallows with a light fishing line and hook.

You can PULL, PUSH and SWING your pole, doing these at just the right time will help you catch your fish.
Keep your eyes peeled and watch... when you think a fish is hooked PULL your pole. LOOK ON POLE to see what you caught or to see if you still have your bait on the hook. You can also MEASURE your catch.

FISH REMOVE will get your fish of the hook and to keep it fresh  and keep it from swimming away put it in your stringer or creel. Don't forget to DROP MY STRINGER

[ Script for reeling in your catch ]

REMEMBER to take the stringer with you when you leave your fishing spot, Janitors seem to love fish too!

To sell your fish go to the attendants in the tackle shops. READ the sign which will tell you about the fish and the prices you can hope for. GIVE your catch to the attendant and if you caught a WHOPPER you might get your name on one of the three  trophy's. There is fierce competition out there, so be prepared!

In Piraeus around the boardwalk is a special chef ready to prepare your catch for you and your friends, there you can  tell TALL tales ~ another great way to RP.
