Matachinga, (Blackdog)
Welcome to my weekend world. I am Matachinga which means-Blackdog. The Illinois (Illiniweks) nations were the Peoria, Kaskaskia, Cahokia, Tamaroa, Monigwena, and Michigameia. They are referred to as the Lords of the Mississippi as they were at one time such a formidable force in the mid-west. The Illini were of the woodland culture and of the Algonquian Family linguistic stock. Similar to the Miami, Wea, and Piankashaw of Indiana. The Tamaroa were a peaceful people who quickly (1680's) befriended the early French settlers. Because of this, they soon were annilated by the diseases, religion, and enemies that came with these new European adventurers. On this page, I wish to display my passion of the culture and celebrate those who share life's circle with me. Powwow dancing is more than just a hobby for me. It is the way I reach our to my ancestors that I still love and miss so much. When I attend the gatherings, it is remindful of Sunday afternoon get-togethers with family elders, cousins, and loved ones. Therefore, I dance to honor my Lower and Overhill Cherokee  ancestors (the Emery Family)of SC/NC/TN area.
