Quilige, a Lower Cherokee |
The Emory/Emery family began as Indian Traders for the GA/SC Colonies at the beginning of the 1700's. The original immigrant, John Emory, and his sons eventually located in Charleston, SC and the upper country around Pendleton, SC and the Oconee Co/Anderson Co region. There they intermarried into Lower and Overhill Cherokee peoples. The descendants of these marriages roamed westward toward the TN/KY/IL/MO areas near the Mississippi River Valley. |

The Cherokee built towns from VA to GA and west into KY |

The Cherokee were very adaptive to other cultures as well as having their own unique and rich culture. Even today that is representative in modern adornment worn by some descendants. |
