premonition
all you can see is the back of your eyelids because you're too frightened to look, too terrified to witness what might occur, or who may be lurking ahead. your eyes are your enemy so you run with them closed, feeling your way through the great, wide unknown until something stops you and you open your eyes to see what it is that holds you back, but its too dark to see anything at all. so there you sit all by yourself, restrained by fear and too afraid to close your eyes. you sit wondering... waiting... hearing only the crickets and wishing you were one of them, at least until morning. you imagine never seeing the sun again, or your family... and you deftly cry out but its too late... everyone is gone and you've been left alone to survive what ever it is that you ran from, hoping that you find away out before it finds you. closing your eyes, you crawl on your hands and knees, with tears rolling from silent sobs and turning the dirt to mud. then you hear it and you stop. you listen as it runs toward you and your teeth chatter. its right in front of you and you try to scream but it grabs a hold of you and shakes you like a trembling nightmare. opening your eyes you recognize what shakes you as it tells you to wake up... that its only a dream and that you are safe from harm, until he loses control of the vehicle and swerves into the ditch before rolling seven times... out in the desert, and in the death of night... which reeks of blood, and cannibals not far. |
