"Lion on the Beach"
          LION
                  Panthero leo
Ahh King of the Jungle...NOT
Lions do not live in tropical forests therefore cannot technically be called King of the Jungle. They are mostly found only on savannas south of the Sahara.
Lions live together in groups called prides. The male lion can grow anywhere from 8 to 10 1/2 feet in length, 3 to 4 feet tall and weigh 330 to 530 pounds. The female 8 to 9 feet, 260 to 300 pounds.  They show their power by roaring at night and especially towards morning. A typical roar can be heard for 2 miles! ( Don't ya wish we could do that when our kids wander out of eye shot?)

Lions also roar to show ownership of their territories and mark it with urine.
Lions don't do much during the day. Besides lying around looking majestic, they mate. And mate, and mate, and mate. Lions will mate SEVERAL times a day. ABout 3 and a half months later 1 to 6 cubs are born weighing 3 pounds each. So how do they get so big? Well, a lion can eat up to 65 pounds of meat at one meal!!!!
At night is when the prey needs to watch out. The male stays hidden in the grass to help move prey toward the female, who actually does the hard part of killing. (figures) The lioness jumps on the prey and sinks it teeth into the victims throat. Bringing it to a slow agonizing death.
Lions can eat up to 65 pounds of meat in a single meal, but do not need to eat everyday.
A special thank you to my son for being more computer literate than his mother,,,
